I know the race you mean Peggy lad had a few right crackers that day myself but I had about 14 away and how many ordinary guys send 14 doos to France and time a right few in and get most back these days? There is an old saying Peggy lad spend tuppence halfpenny and you will get a tuppence hallfpenny job! Bottom line is you organisation voted to SAVE MONEY. Not to think of you birds first and foremost! But to save money! Sometimes you get away with it sometimes you don't!! Said it before on here and I will say it again look after your yearling pigeons they will make your reputation!!

Yes they certainly did Alf but we are human and pressue gets to us all I know it used to get to "me" it is not an easy job and certain "people" will be trying to suggest the birds should fly because tomorrow they can't time in because people are on a "double shift" etc etc. IT IS NOT EASY. TRUST "ME"

Don't know what age you are Bart but I have no doubt you are not as old as "me". THERE ARE ALWAS BIRDS ON THEIR TIME. ALWAS HAVE BEEN ALWAS WILL BE AND GALLANT BIRDS THEY ARE! But there was alot of birds at this race remember people were being encouraged by the premier club in the country to send their birds even if they were not members of the Scottish National Flying Club. I posted on here months ago about the dangers of this kind of race and was disparaged by several regular contributors. How many freezing cold soaking wet yearling racing pigeons are trying to work out what its all about at this precise moment? BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR YEARLINGS BIRDS THEY ARE YOU FUTURE!

I have said something similar on here on a few occasions and been denounced the bottom line is most guys are back at work tomorrow and the forecast is not great so what do you doo? Ain't critisicing the lads who controlled the races, don't exactly see people forming a que to have a shot at it. There are pressures that come to bear trust "me" there are pressures. Thinking of Jim and Tammy at the moment I know this will be upsetting them but at least they had a go. Today they got it wrong but it is easy to criticise, their doos were in the baskets as well.

lets hope some of them pick themselves up tomorrow and get home weather for the north of the country a bit clearer although the wind won't help. Whatever you doo don't take it out on the birds was not a great day for them I certainly would not condemn a bird that battles back from this deserve another shot at it.

"West section did'nt do better"? You are on the wind up mate have you seen the cumbrian and Abington hills on days like this? Trust "me" your widowhood doos would have been down feeling sorry for themselves. Well done just under a third home is good fishing today even if your doos were following the east coast tramlines home they still did well. all the best!

Eh! the short answer is no. weather forecast was bang on birds to the west of the country would struggle big time. You alwas get birds on their time and there have been gallant birds timed in Lanarkshire today in good time and I salute those birds. Facts are facts and history tells you that the south and east coast up to the forth was the place to be today. Lets all hope the birds thrown in today keep themselves safe and battle up the road and live to race another day.
  15. well at least the weather forecast was right!

Oh if it was a spelling mistake the other reason Alf creosoted his boxes was to eradicate Red Mite!

Sincerely hope if you are talking about the Wood Green maestro that was a spelling mistake I know he would have been disappointed that a fellow London flyer got his name wrong. Rest in peace Alf Baker lad you were one of the true greats and alwas quick to help a new start with advice or a bird or two!!
  20. Is this a "paid for advert"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 A donation to the forums funds would be appreciated youngthingmy!
  21. if its only one bird isolate in whatever way you think is appropriate but as Bart says Ornicure and Tylan are a good combination or even Aureomycin and Tylan. The likelyhood is some of the others are also infected so it would be best to treat for 5 days at least!
  22. hope you are right Bart lad but I fear you are confusing people keeping pigeons because they love them with racing as we know it today. There will only be one union, finances will dictate that as well, but you only have to look at the balance sheet the Shu send out every year to work out roughly when it will go pear shape for us guys up here.
  23. 50 years time? don't be daft lad it will be a lot sooner than that. The ageing membership will mean that sooner rather than later the numbers will plummet relatively speaking "overnight" and the practical aspects of the sport i.e. finances, will be the death knell for it. It might still continue in a minor way with lots of wee inland races for the few that remain.
  24. You forgot to mention how much you wanted for the silver car Stevie lad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
