Hmm makes me think.I bought a bird from an auction site two year ago and the guy said he would put the hen with it.I asked auctioneer to collect birds for me as he was there that night .I paid the auctioneer for the birds when i picked them up next day.He told me how the hen was outstanding and him and his friends all agreed it was the best violet eye they had seen.I said my thanks and farewells and took my birds and of i went happy as larry. When i got home i had missed two calls from auctioneer asking to ring him back urgently.Anyway to cut a story short he wanted the hen back as he said it was a mistake and wasnt meant to have been sold when i told him it was advertised with the cock he said it was a mistake and all history from the site was removed.Thing was i had the birds allready so the auctioneer said i could have a young hen from his stock loft for return of the hen.Now i didnt buy the hen of auctioneer so why was he offering me one of his birds? All smell's fishy to me i wont name names but needless to say i wont buy of the net again unless i meet seller first.I still have the hen but i lost the cock when i moved house and someone let my stockbirds out(luckily she was in other shed at the time).

If i could afford it i would buy it but then money is tight at the moment for everyone i think.

Its a different kettle of fish.Sprint racing is a race you aim to win distance you aim to clock them in if you win its a bonus.Just my opinion, terry when will this hen be coming up for sale she sounds like the ideal mate for my van reet cock .Lol saying that no way i will be able to afford it.

I intend to do that as well

Ben out of them 8 cocks 5 will be two year olds next year and 3 will be yearling's.4 of the five have took a club card including a few fed cards so really wanted to keep them on widowhood for next year all though i wont be racing them the first few race's i will be using the hens like you said.I just wanted to get a big young bird team(40 youngbirds is my target) so i'm not in the same boat this time next year. Also a couple of them cocks will be saved for the national and a couple of open race's i have in mind.
-
this year was my first real oldbird season(i only had three birds last year) the reason behind my thinking is i have a cock that has scored near on every club race inland took a channel card as well on his only channel race.He took 2nd fed(1400 birds) after refusing to come in for over five min's(Trapping has been a real problem for me this year with old and young birds but think that is sorted now thanks to Old yellow ) i only took two youngsters of him this year one was reported dead 5 mile away and the other has been very consistant.

Ok appologies if this has been asked before but i want to know if i can run one cock through 10 hens. The problem being is i dont have cocks for the hens and i want them all to hatch about the same time .Now i am thinking of a bull like system but without the other cocks will this work?I am also thinking i will have to replace one egg with a dummie egg if i can get the hen to sit by herself.Anyone done this or similar before? any help would be gratefull.Ive only 8 cocks and 30 hens in my whole team i wont be breeding from all the hens but some deserve the chance .I will also be looking for help when it comes to racing as my cocks are to good not to race but with so many hens i need to be looking at a system that allows me to race both.(maybe lesbian hens racing to each other ) again any help appreciated.

Would be interesting to see results as well to see what seems to be working better for some. I weaned my youngsters onto the darkness i took them off the longest day of the year and i took a club position every race i sent bar one when i had 4 on the shed roof and wouldnt come in so i threw a sulk on and didnt clock them ,two fed cards a breeer buyer position and 7th middlewich two bird open as well with the young birds.(i missed two weeks for holiday) i paired up between christmas and new year and all my pairs bar two where youngsters of the darkness system.I also took two rounds from them and noticed the second round didnt do as well as the first.
-
yes i think i will have to use a modified roundabout system.I did ok last year with 12 cocks(8 after the first race lol) Every now and then i just let the Hens have a turn i just havnt got the knack with the hens yet i suppose it will come in time.My immediate worry is ive only 2 pair of stock birds so i breed of my racers and i didnt really want to take two rounds of my racers but needs must i suppose.Roland when you say reverse the role do you mean hens on full widowhood like the cocks do? (bear in mind i am still new to this so bear with me if i sound like i am asking stupid questions)If so could i lock them in there boxe's to stop them pairing and would i put the hens in the widowhood half and let them pick there own boxe's or do i let the cocks pick the box and pair the hens to the cock at pairing time and leave them there after ive weaned the youngsters.
-
Well after a great young bird season it turns out i have a grand total of 3 cocks to add to my impressive team of 5 making a total of 8 widowhood cocks for next year .Ive 14 hens i could race instead of the cocks but wouldnt know where to start.I was hoping for a bigger team next year so i could really compete but i suppose nature dictates to us all in the end.

CLUB MEETINGS< that time again
Ronnie replied to grizzal's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
I wouldnt do the secretary's job if you payed me.A great respect and thanks to the people who do take on these positions your made of better stuff than myself. -
Haha i would never sell my Birds Tango mate he is only a 07 bird as well and one of his youngsters took a couple of cards this year including 7th open middlewich two bird from east prawle(another hard race with the Birds spread out).I think i may of landed lucky with this one.
-
Pay your money and take your chance.Everyone has a choice and like has been said dont take anything away from the birds that made it home.Just a shame about the rumours and bad propaganda thats floating about about the europa one loft race.Maybe if all the cards where put on the table to start with and an independant regulator was appointed then a lot more people would have faith in the race.Still if you want a one loft race to take part in Pigeon basics has its own .Hopefully Philips will be running it again next year .
-
Dont take anything away from any bird thats got a win under its belt even when the bird is usually at the back it just shows that the race was suited for that bird not that the bird was lucky as some on here would tell you. When i won Niort the first thing i heard was yeah backmarker won it love to know how people make these assumptions when they didnt even clock. The same bird also came 11th middlewich two bird open champion of cheshire(only bird round this way again) the same bird also won the club on two occasions when the so called fast birds got in.Sorry if it sounds like a rant but people are so quick to knock other birds when theres dont or cant put in the supreme effort it takes in bad condition's. A win is a win in any circumstance and on the day that's what you put the bird in a race for.
-
The other side of the coin is darkness system can make a bad bird good so its no help in choosing next years yearling's.
-
If you have a carbohydrate loader you could give it some of that .I find it seems to perk them up when they have flown themselves out.
-
I got told this year that my birds where carried home .And i only won cos i had a better trap.Lol if only he knew the bloody thing sat on the roof as normal.Lol i just smiled and played the dumb newbie .Wont happen next year when i sort me trapping out

Thats a good result mate well done
