  1. You can get silk purses and sows lugs from proven racers. Surely when you purchase your stock you look at their breeding and performances of closely related stock. Sprinting to say 200miles is a much diffo game than building a distance team where patience in your stock is the most important thing as you probs wont see great things until the birds have matured. As for colours and sex. Have found that winners come in all colours but have also found from some of mine that certsin a pair breed multiple winners which up to now have all been chequer cocks.( 6 winners from 10 in three years)
  2. Get up really early then Harry!!!LOl
  3. I just get up and change the water????
  4. Aye right Mick. ffin baltic
  5. Yip. Leave them alone if ye can until the spring, giving you time to split them now
  6. Depends on them being partners before! put them in the closed box with half brick or such like and it wont take long
  7. happy bday
  8. As john says. when you are connected the blackberry will prompt you to use it as a charger or to import media, simply select media and your laptop should then prompt you to select import- select yes and job done
  9. Where is the 25degree mentioned Owen?
  10. Well done watty. True gent. Job well done.
  11. Well there you go. Somebody has looked at the same reasearch that I did regarding body temps, deemed irrelevant by others???, I cant understand why somebody would ask for the views of people in the know regarding a/c then diss them when they gave their view? I also cant understand why fanciers views, most of whom crawled into the loft, are dismissed even tho it is what they truely believe and what they were taught from the start? I, like Mr Pandy, have always believed that panting was all down to unfit/fat birds and have always found that countinous exercise stopped the panting. The reason being that I have had birds pant after exercise in Febuary after they have been shut up? Surely this cant be don to air temp? Best of luck with this thread but feel we are on the wrong road JMO

  13. Hi Owen Suggets you read from Van Bremens blogs to see what the docs and vets think of heat in baskets! Wasnt trying to be flippent or wanted to appear thick, merely wanting to add to your debate! Here is a link of which I am sure that you have read where the subject has been discussed regards temps and the racing pigeon. http://www.stevenvanbreemen.nl/?Hints_2_Win:Flying_racing_pigeons_in_the_heat Here is another, this is what you have been reading no doubt, My question about the internal temp of a pigeon, which you dismissed as irelevant, was aimed at my concerns of overcrowding which is a pretty simple equation of lots of birds = lots of heat which in turn = poor VENTILATION. Allied with the struggle to water in an overcrowded basket all adds up to a bad situation?? Best of luck with your quest. http://www.stevenvanbreemen.nl/?Hints_2_Win:Modern_Pigeon_Transport_%26amp%3B_Facilities
  14. Excellent stuff, I am still trying to race the channel with two per race??? Its very hard lol
  15. Owen Whats the normal internal blood temp for a pigeon? The fumes? Are we talking amonia? If you spent 10mins in a sauna at 27degree c then i suggest you concentrate on your fitness LOL

Ye agree Stuart that the SNRPC are looking to move forward. BUT, national?,all parts of the country? Maybees naw eh?
  18. Do you require a single field or quad?
  19. Canny help ye rebuild the loft alan but will certainly help with stock and as you know will gladly ferry any from the south to hamilton. Hope all goes well mate
  20. On my second pint at edinburgh airport waiting for my flight to Frankfurt to watch my lassie play two internationals against the germans!!!! Canny decide on loft visits or the pub????
  21. Well I have never, never handled or have owned a channel pigeon that scores at 500mile and has poor balance with its tail in the air!!!!! Now these birds can look a million dollars but in my experience are not up to it. They might be okay for 200 mile stuff and indeed I have won with a couple of cocks that were not the strongest in the back but could perform at that distance. So HANDLING? just rubbish?? Dont think so
  22. Exactly! You looked at the line not the performance?
  23. No I am the same Walter. Not saying the bull system is wrong only that the very low percentage of good distance birds bred I think that ONE or TWO cocks is not enuff. I would rather breed a tight family centred around your base family. ie brothers and sisters/sons and daughters of what you think is your strongest lines. This way the gene pool is still large but has a more concentrated line. Of course many roads lead to Rome and obviously its working for you. Best of luck mate
  24. Was at Stuarts today and the birds are in great order. I admired the Faroes grizzles, nice and bold. Best of luck with your sale
  25. Ye Got to agree. No sure about the best racer to the best racer either. The best birds I have had were all bred from birds that have never left the loft never mind won a race?
