Good morning all.

There are recommendations for a low dosage to sterilise water systems. It is used extensively within poultry situations, so one would expect it to be safe. Are the recommended dosages safe for pigeons? Would there be any product left active, thus available to act on the pigeon's gut system, once the water was drank by the pigeons? Would this residue strengthen the gut bacteria's resistance to it, thus rendering it ineffective at the recommended dosage? Any answers?

The vagaries of age!!! At least I remembered the match and the sulphur, and knowing this site, now the full and correct explanation has appeared.

There were loads of old cures and they either cured or killed.

Light a match and use the blown out matchstick on the canker. I think I remember hearing a cure to this effect, it was something to do with the sulphur in the match, but a lot of the time if they did not recover quickly, they were moved on.

Bad news. This highlights the need to forego the old traditions and look to the future of the sport. Costs are a problem, but a problem shared is a problem halved, so this is something we have to look at. Sharing convoying costs. Predation is a problem, so we have to look for workarounds. The traditional ways and programmes do not work in this modern world, so the programmes need to be adapted. There are so many changes in the "modernisation" of the sport, but the sport itself in essence is not changing with the "modernisation", it is still archaic in its outlook.

Some start for Midland Fed. 500 mile first race followed by another, then a 700 mile and a 900 mile before three 500 mile comeback races. :D Suicidal enthusiasm. :D

I don't race YB's just now, so yearlings have first five races and stopped, the others have first five races then have alternate weeks to coast and if all is going well I might try Arras. I will have a better idea once I have raced past the first five races. My late-breds go north starting around mid June until start of July, three races. The other north pigeons go every week until the middle of June, seven races, then have a break jumping into one of the later races before the final race.
