Once upon a time ........... there was no internet, no mobile phones, only 3 channels on the TV and a weather forecast once a day after the news. feds never cancelled, delayed basketing or changed racepoints. Pigeons were took to their designated racepoints and in the main it was up to the convoyers discretion when the birds were libbed, a pre-arranged time was set in some cases (no mobile phones) as there was no way to communicate on most of the lib sites. Training was done by rail, a note was attached to the basket where you would like them libbed.......... and they were libbed at that place regardless of the weather. What I'm getting at is pigeons were much more hardy then than now, they faced the elements on a regular basis and pigeons were judged on these performances and these same pigeons were the ones we bred from. IMO the evolution of technology and the type of pigeon we now race go hand in hand, we now house lightweights compared to years ago. The end.
