  1. Could the spraying of crops have something to do with the apparent weakening of pigeons immune systems? Is it just a coincidence that all these new viruses pigeons contract attack their nervous systems? Farmers are most at risk from contracting Parkinson’s disease!
  2. The egg will take on a more opaque appearance. Given time you will be able to tell without even having to remove the eggs.
  3. Who knows chrissy. Years ago pigeons went light but there was never a named virus/disease given to it. Pigeons unable to get of the ground was associated with a dodgy bag of maize. Hens that just laid and lost the power of their legs was put down to a nerve being disturbed. All these problems now have a given name along with a diagnosis. Have they always been with us but just under a different guise?
  4. Vic, a couple of things have been doing the rounds in the last couple of years, Streptococcal Infections is one the other being Herpes Infections. Streptococci can be treated with Amoxicillin, Herpes you just have to let it run its course. Its pointless me guessing what the problem is because that’s all it would be is a guess. Keep your chin up mate
  5. Hi birdman09, can you clarify the size of your loft
  6. Started in 1988...........still none the wiser ;D ;D
  7. I give Cytacon (B12 liquid) every other day from pairing up till the hens lay out. Excellent source of Riboflavin which helps enrich the eggs.
  8. Another one is 200mls of orange squash and a pinch of salt to a litre of water
  9. As sapper756 said be patient gladdo I have 4 of your rings here but like I said I'll contact you when i ring up the youngbirds. Many fanciers like me paired up after the Blackpool show and eggs have now just started chipping.

    pairing up

At a quick calculation pair up 18-19 weeks before the first race you want to enter them in.
  12. I've never used this combo. Whats it for? at a guess I'd say it wouldn't hurt giving it to darkness y/birds going through the moult during a cold damp spell.
  13. Its not until we change our psyche and start asking the question ‘what’s your family of pigeons based around’ instead of ‘what pigeons do you fly’ before things will start to change. We should put the onus on the asker, as it stands now if you ask someone what pigeons they fly and they respond ‘my own family’ you immediately think to yourself the reply was in the negative. Sometimes were our own worse enemies.
  14. & teach to suck eggs
  15. If the drinker in that section was frozen this morning its a very good chance that the egg (if it hasn't been covered by the hen) has frozen to. Sometimes a hen will stand over the egg, if she did this she might have done just enough to stop the cold penetrating into it, I guess only time will tell.
  16. If you were thinking of having a tiled roof I would do away with the 3'' gap and use double roman tiles and have ridges along the top. The way double romans lay allows air to escape.

  23. Agree with Roland, weed out those that dont adapt.
  24. I take them away midday and they don’t get fed until midday the following day. I sieve all the small seeds out of whatever breeding mix I’m using and feed them only on the larger grains for 2 or 3 days or until they are all eating and filling their crops. After this they go onto ordinary breeding mix afternoon feeding, I then start feeding mornings also, this feed consists of depurative/pellets/Homoform.
  25. I'll start the ball rolling Q1, Mary Poppins I think the song went something like A spoonful of depurative helps the medicine go down........... ;D ;D ;D or was it Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul's The little old bird woman comes. In her own special way to the people she calls, Come, buy my bags full of crumbs.
