  1. This happened to a hen of mine some years back and I was told to pop a couple of cod liver oil tablets down her throat then every half hour or so hold her rear end down in hot water, whilst doing this massage her cloaca region with an anti bacterial soap. I done this 3-4 times placing her in a basket in a warm room between working on her. She passed the eggs (the second was there also but that was bound abnormally) and although weak came through it ok. One thing you mustn’t do is put her back in the loft to quick as her mate will want to drive her again, she'll need a couple of weeks of rest. I hope this works for you.

    Distance terms

I class a distance pigeon as one that can do 12+ hours on the wing at a distance of 500+miles. I think all pigeons fed right should be capable of racing up to 300 mile. Between 300 mile & 500 mile I would categorise as middle distance.
  8. Contrary to beliefs a pubic hare in ya soup aint that bad either!

  12. Its a complex question you ask valteng as each pigeon will be different. The race may have been from 200 mile but how many miles has the pigeon flown in reality? could be x4 or x5 that distance. If the pigeon has called on all its reserves and has wasted muscle you could be looking at 4-6 week minimum. Firstly the pigeon will need time to cleanse itself of the lactic acid build up before you start to build it up again. Feed non fatty light feed for the first 3-4 days as to not over burden the digestive tract, liver & kidneys. I would then gradually introduce heavier grain (50% barley 50% heavy mix)with brewers yeast added to it, nothing but plain drinking water. Once the pigeon has regained its weight and its dropping have returned to small & solid with down falling don’t be fooled into thinking its ok, you will have to observe its behaviour and wait for the pigeon to tell you its right. The pigeon will now need its confidence built back up now, a few short tosses on easy days will help. Also a pigeon flown on widowhood/celibacy will recover quicker that a pigeon flown on the natural system

    The pectorals?

Here is the question Vic asked again. For the novices that doesn’t fully understand it my advice to you would be is to put as many pigeons through on marking nights as you possibly can. After time you'll come to recognise this condition and when you find yourself asking the question ‘how the hell do they get them like this’ your quest has just begun. Good luck!
  17. Anything with a tic eye or something I can out look for (dizzy)
  18. If there's a touch of east in the wind we see them going over in droves here in Dagenham. Let me know what colour your pool pigeon is and I'll tell you if its up the front or not

    The pectorals?

I understand your point Vic and I understand the importance. Timing is all important, I just wish I was a master at it. Breeds/type. As I only handle my own pigeons at various times throughout the week I can only talk about mine. All pigeons are capable of reaching this condition just that in some its more pronounced than others. You've just got to know your own pigeons. I believe how to recognise and more important control this can only be learnt through observation & experience, not one or the other but both.
  20. Psssst! what will you give me for 20p For 20p you can have a cheap trill big boy

    Returns

Typical of north road racing flying into a s/east wind, fancied pigeons struggling, some looked as if they'd been pulled through the wringer backwards, big gaps between first and second arrivals for most, pigeons spooked on arrival. Not down to hawks the route we fly, they don't like that east in the wind up 'em.
  22. Well done Sue!
  23. Dagenham Essex 08:30 90% cloud cover, s/e wind
  24. West Essex up at 07:00 from Wetherby, s/e wind
  25. 2006 ordered 45 rings, I had 32 to race come their first race, now have 19 2006 pigeons left 4 of which are w/hood hens. Selection/losses I'd say were 50/50
