Derek called last night to say he had won 1st National with a Raymond Moleveld Jan Aarden x M Gilbert, he was very pleased and this yb had been very consistant all year!! 2 years ago we offered the one and probaly only Daughter of the The Lightenberg at Blackpool, a dark hen and Raymond said at the sell she would breed them, i was delighted when i knocked the bird down to Derek Flowers as i knew he would get the best from it and he is well on his way to doing that. Well done Derek on a fantastic season. Stuart Wilcox

They are very high quality pigeons and at the moment there is a steady stream of them going from Belguim to the far east esp China, the problem is by the time they get to UK i think they will be well watered down by the time they get to these shores.

I havnt got too many hens left im afriad, done in in too very bad channel races, and for some reason i only bred about 20% hens.

At the start of any young bird season we look at the birds we have bred and think god there are some beuties in this lot, unfortunitly we often have a different view come the end of the season when the scrag arses are left. The race basket can be hard but do we all believe its the only way to select? and are you happy with what the race basket has given you? Personally i have 35 cocks left and on the whole im very pleased with there breeding, balance and type!!!! Stuart

I didnt have a corridor in my main loft but i will be installing one now, i think a narrow section keeps the pigeons calmer and makes it easier toi catch them, and with an 8tf wide loft you still benefit from the extra air space. Stuart

All this Rain about Alf keeps them hydrated and alert, does really help them stay alive, if it was 90 degrees and perfect sunshine last week, most would have perished. Stuart

It seems that there may be variuos reasons for young birds losses from, hawks to weather and possibly sickness. Sickness may be one of the reasons why the ybs on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th race tend to at least once fail to leave the lib site. Maybe they start to contract new viruses from the first race and with stress it multiplies and bang we have a bad race. Now lets say that 3 weeks before the first race on a monday everybody baskets there ybs into the fed transportor until its full and we fed and water the birds for 3 days. All the bugs and viruses will spread throughout the lorry and the birds will then be returned to the fanciers where they can deal with whatever they have in the comfort of there own loft and by the time racing comes around they have had the effect of the MIX and got over it. Would also help to teach them to eat and drink. A bl**dy crazy idea i know but could see it working non the less. Stu.
