  4. i feed bandfords super widowhood mixed with gerry+ birds are fit enough but sometimes circle over the fields which i dont understand how can this be they are bouncing so deciced to train when this happens
  5. what did the other forum have to say? some say never to show hens & dont get em too excited before race as this uses too much nervous energy ive done both & also put cocks in basket then let them see the hens go in wow whatch em go mad!!!! also cock in the box with there hen send training & put bowl & straw in the cock thinks the hens back i have had winning results with all of the above i suppose it depends on the bird your trying to motivate anyone else got any views on this topic???
  6. thanks jimmy seems that no one want to give away there trade secerets!!! more or less the same as me i use diet mix instead of deputative & also feed peanuts as the races get longer & when they go off there food usually on friday always still eat the peanuts though
  7. what do other members feed there widowhood cocks/hens & does the food alter as the races get longer & sometimes harder take today for instance north east wind
  8. my ybs still on breed & wean pm with a light feed of of diet mix am & are let out at 10am fly over an hour some do more
  9. i drove from london to yorkshire setting off 9.30am cloudy with sunny spells all the way with the odd shower then later left yorkshire at 3pm & it was sunny all the way back with blue skys
  10. mine exercise for just around 3omins then let them do what they want for 30mins to pick out a pool bird fed let out 6am fed at 7am pots emptied around 10am then left to rest alday which they do till the bowls are shown which they go crackers even the yearlings
  11. i fly roundabout hens do 45mins am & pm sometimes with a training toss if i feel they need a bit extra cock had about 15/20tosses before racing now do 45mins am & pm no more training all training before racing was only upto 15miles most at either 5 or 10 giving them confidence coming home to hen
  12. they say you can never show the hens there cocks too much which i think is true unlike the cocks as they tend to sulk if they see too much of the hen if yiou have a problem with hens pairng up either lock hens up,or mesh floor with poles as perches & another reason is put 1cock in with a hen you dont race & they will rule the floor and chace anything off the floor that will stop em pairing up
  13. had a treadfull race sat with bad returns think no sun poor visibility with north east wind asking for problems
  14. when i first wean my ybs i put in a basket & they are fed in there untill all are percherd up now when i put the basket in they basket them them selves!!!

    Feeding ybs

i feed light feed morning then evening get as much as they want & i remove water this way can only as much as they can take giving all the others chance that eat slower to get there intake of food instead of eating too quickly & having a drink then going back for more or grabing best perch while ever they are eating i keep on puting food down then water is put back in it realy works try it
  16. all depends what you call a good young bird i once had a hen & a cock she won 2 1st & 1 2nd he won 1 1st & 2 2nds as ybs the following year did excactly the same won loads for years for me never realy get a yb that scores more than twice its usually different bird which i prefer dont like one bird loft!! later found that my best birds as old birds are the ones that dont score
  17. my loft is surrounded by trees & some houses & always come from the same place regaudless of wind & does help if you can see em coming
  18. think its best facing direction of race point save time for birds having to spin round to trap i race south east loft faces south stock loft faces west & i used to use as a racing loft but found lost time when birds came home
  19. how do we prove we clocked a nominated bird in & as some races are between 170/210 miles would it be better to nominate a date for the race as i fly 170 then week after 204miles which probably affect the result if wind/race conditions are not the same sorry if i havnt read the post properly but could not see these topics
  20. yesterday last training toss for my cocks first race 2m!!! hens still training for 1 to 2 more weeks as started after cocks
  21. well i usually give the bird 3year to prove its self if not done anything as a yb or as yearling final chance as a 2year old then afraid got to go after that dont believe on passing on rubbish to other people
  22. hope they get on ok!!!! do they pair up to other birds? have you bred off them? very interesting pictures
  23. once ybs all perched up they are cleaned out daily
  24. have 45 flying round no more to add to that team
