  1. i think the cleaner the loft is the better the birds will be,but you can look at it in 2 different ways, you can deep litter them and keep the deep litter in tip top condition aswell,i think if you do deep litter you really do need to keep an eye on your birds has its harder to check there droppings, also you do need to have a very dry loft has if the deep litter gets damp then your really in trouble.
  2. i use natural yogurt from morrisons, use it 2-3times a week, ive never had young bird sickness,i also use cider viniger aswell,i think it keeps canker at bay aswell, alot of fanciers around me seem to suffer with young bird sickness every year,i dont so i put it down to my managment,oh and i use nyfuromicin every now and again, there droppins day after are like little balls,so thats telling you all is well. les
  3. thats not true, ive used it in the past a few days before a fed race and had good results. les
  4. the tournier family of grizzles are floating in many top familys, van loon, vander merwe, plus many others and winning against thousands of pigeons.
  5. i once had a good sootjen cock, think he won around 10x1sts many 2nds,he had a flat orange eye,was a superb racer, when i stopped him i bred quit a few off him hoping he was going to fill my loft with winners,i was wrong, they were a load of rubbish,i bought a sootjen cock from j.salt, kimberly notts,he had an outstanding gun metal eye, well,he bred winners from the 1st nest,i know many people pull eyesign down but its all part of a good make up of the pigeon, let there eyes go too weak and you have lost the blood, ive seen it many times.
  6. never been to a top racing loft yet and handled pigeons that have bred many winners with a bad eyesign, yet ive been and handled pigeons that have been bought for lots of money only to be outed 2 years later for breeding crap, and ive looked at there eyes when they were bought and even told the fancier that if he breeds winners from them ill give him what he paid for them. les
  7. agree 100% but most of all top class pigeons will turn our loft round.
  8. looks a cracking hen,or was a cracking hen should i say. les
  9. hopper feeding is leaving it in front of them all the time, they wont get fat or over there racing weight, they will feel good all the time has they balance themselves out, nothink easier than that,no need to spoon feed them to keep there weight down they do it themselves, you can add a littleweight by titbits, alot of top fanciers hopper feed but they wont tell you that.food for thoughts. les
  10. hopper feed beans, they wont chuck them about, when racing comes feed tit bits in there boxes but keep the beans down as there main feed, when races come to were you want them to work harder feed in boxes but still keep the beans down. les
  11. ill pair up when my stock hens show me they are ready, too many pair up before the hens are ready for pairing then have lots of proplems, let the birds tell you when there ready and you will have a better batch of youngsters. les
  12. is there anyone who has the volumes made by ronnie bigwood who would like to sell or copy for me has i knew they were very informative .really appreciate it if there is someone who could help. thanxs,,,les
  13. i think alot wont buy beans cos they dont look right for the pigeons with the way we race these days, but i have fed widowhood cocks on beans at sprint races and won with them,an old fancier told me to try it for 2 weeks and said i would win a 1st prize and he was right, they certainly looked out standing hopper fed on them and when they came back from racing they were fit and didnt look tired at all,all ill say is try hopper feeding widowers on beans, they might just put a smile on your face. les
  14. i have had choc muelmans in the past through schlephorst, the chocs didnt come direct from him but down the generation they did produce the chocs/pieds,they were stunning pigeons,i had the red fox/rooie appie lines running through them and yes they did win but has others have stated they do breed better racers than themselves.good luck with them adam. les
  15. wish i could bump into martin wildoat,id give him rabies alright,id smack him in the mouth that much hed be throthing for a month, some comments on there make me sick,i agree with the cutting down on them has for every town, theres too many and the strays give us a real bad name and the rspb love this.some of those comments though theres some really wierdoes out there. les
  16. he means roland janssens, not arendonk janssens,no relation in men nor pigeons, nice pics,if you are looking for a cross i would say sootjen pigeons into them, but not sheaders,u wanna try and keep the speed into them for sprinting. les
  17. Gaz,love the 2 pencil cocks mate, they would fill a loft with top birds if you bang 2 van reet hens into them. les
  18. The muelmans cross fantastic with the old janssen strains,i had some through gerard schlepphorst in the late 90s,why people fail with them winning is they are more interested in there purity, adam if you really want these pigeons to breed top winners cross them with the old vos de byter red foxes or the van riel blood. The winning lines are locked up there somewere you just need to let it out by putting another related line into them. les
  19. sorry, dont agree with this statement,a small loftwith big or average results are the ones i would buy from not from the big lofts, because on a race day they only seem to beat u with the 1 pigeon. les
  20. 54yrs old
  21. sure is dedication, then again you only get out of what you put into them, plus i think they have took there pigeons to a different level above the rest. les
  22. what you have to consider with the koopmans is that they feed hard train hard and race hard so only the very best is left, they are good stockmen,i know gerard koopman trains his birds from paris, singled up,he baskets them all up and drives to paris, stops over night and then singles up the next day, check the distance from paris to holland,he slaughters others in big competition. les
  23. had them since i was 13yrs old now 38yrs old,wow how time flyes by.brought an injured blue cock home from cayton bay while we were on holiday, later settled in in my old rabbit cage and it brought a stray back on day and paired, that was the begining of a long interest, ive had to learn the very hard way has nobody had them in my family, its been tough going but ive learnt alot through it,ive become a good stockman but thers always somethink to learn in this sport, ive bred many winners for me and other plus top combine positins over the years including 1st and2nd,i wudnt be without them, les
  24. totaly agree, most were very nice blues with yellow eyes, not the best eyes to look at but wow they could Sprint,i raced the j.s.lofts sootjens (mardens) years backand some races had upto 18 drop together, still got the old type here and wont let them go cos i like them. les
