: thanks for the info lads, its good to hear others opinions when we have a puzzling race,it looks like some birds got back on their line and was heading north but it could be that a large part of the convoy went inland, velocities on the east were what you would expect but the west were nowhere near it, nothing back today and its rained non stop. davy.

imo the birds were interfered with at kennoway because myself and lochgelly flyer alec who helped me lib both watched as they cleared perfectly north, at rouhgly 3mile they started circling and i asked alec at what area did he think it was ,he said kennoway, there is bop at the quarry, there is also bop at cuper, i think they were turned west, off the line of flight and then had to put in the milaege,on the way home weather was perfect until huntly area when there was some drizzle, also overcast but cleared by keith area,at the club some had very good returns others including myself never saw a feather,k index was high? something in the air ?maybe. ithink the only thing that ruins the birds homing is predators and we are under estimating the actual numbers that are out there, by the way the birds in the transporter were in good nick and just itchin to go,also returns into buckie were coming out of the west. davy

ive been told black splash is only in cocks yet i had a very good hen that had the black splash through her, also i find it very hard to get returns of mealy or red birds from racing, the ones that have got back have allways been badly hawked, is it a coulor thing with predators i wonder, atb davie.

i hed a good wee red hen flew well the y/b program to ripon, came 2 days late, how she made it i dont know, was opened down her back and crop, looked like the hawk had been eating her but she got away, her wings were fine so she made it, i put her in a crate for the night hoping she would come to in the morning or be a bit more recovered from her ordeal only to find she was crappin out her back so her innards were destroyed, broke my heart to put her down, goes to show that the ones that dont home are not all bad doos.

well done lads, its hard flying into the west of the north section, the best birds by far are found in the west, i hope your break point works for you and we are doing our best for fair libs, weather wise for all the fed, i hope your returns were good as we had a small window to work with, this saturday looks a lot better from perth. yours in sport davie convoyer/driver.
-
well done to paul thompson on using breaking point for a more fairer way to fly doos in the club, first short races i think it would work, the further doon we go i dont think it will matter so much as the birds are spread oot and take their own line home, mebbe he has started something here and more clubs will try it oot, ithink every member should have a fair crack at the whip on a very uneven playing feild.

aye , weve got them at portnockie and macduff and at portsoy durn quarry, huntly, over the hill at keith, line o flight is a nightmare, its not all good doos that make it home, half the time they are just lucky, also these sites are protected by volenteers so nae chance there, i think losses will be severe this year unfotunately, the bigger the dog leg the harder for the birds, its bad enough in buckie but elgin and inverness must be a nightmare for birds homing, last year we tossed from portnockie and peregrine straight into them bringin one y/b down in front of us, my two lads legged it over to get the doo and the hawk, next minute a guy from a hide came oot and started yellin aboot the law etc,,we are forced to fly the dog leg because of the grampian hills, its hard enough withoot hav in bop as well.
