  1. We've got one of each - a hen who acts like a cock, and a cock - all the younger cocks think is a hen The cock has never paired up and is 2 years old - we have to basket with the hens as it gets mobbed by the cocks, it is in a spare section with a late bred cock and a few 12 year old cocks that don't bother it The cocky hen - acts like a cock in a basket of hens - but pairs up with the cocks when they're there - unfortunately she makes a lot of noise when she's in the hen basket at race marking It's a dilemma - but what are you supposed to do with them?

  19. It should have been the NEHU open from Burbure (near Lillers) on Saturday but the forecast is rain and thunderstorms - with electrically charged atmosphere? for Saturday It looks like the Up North Combine may well be liberating tomorrow (Friday) instead as we basketted this morning/afternoon and will be onsite early tomorrow
  20. I don't have insurance, as with most insurances- I am of the belief that they take your money and then tell you they won't pay out when you claim for whatever excuse they can think of! I have spoken to one person locally who is with a different vet, she is in a healthy dog club. But the fees are about the same- plus she pays every month as well to be in this "healthy dog club" (but has a bigger dog, who is also rescue - a greyhound, it cost her £190 for extractions last week)
  21. She's a pedigree chihuahua tho at 4.7kg I think she's atleast twice the size of her parents!
  22. It's fixed prices Andy - no room for negotiation unless 2 procedures carried out - £50 off. That was it! And only because it was one anaesthetic and not 2. The vaccinations for life is only with that vet.
  23. Took dog to the vet for her annual booster - I paid in advance for this - boosters for life - £99 (paid that about 3 years ago when she was a puppy) Currently booster vaccinations are £29 (dog does not get vaccinated for kennel cough which is separate) Dog (is a female) and has not as yet been spayed - cost is £199 (under 10kg) She also needs her teeth cleaning (£99) and may need extractions (the £99 then becomes £199) If she does not need any extractions - they can combine spaying with teeth cleaning and reduce bill by £50 (spaying and teeth cleaning therefore £250) However if dog needs extractions - that's £199 for extractions and £199 for spaying I am not in any dog health 'clubs' What are your charges? PS - I take the pigeons to a different vet!
  24. The Local Golf Club is not far from the allotments where the majority of our club's members keep their birds - it's on the line of flight They are building a golf range, complete with telegraph style poles and netting - 30 feet high (and not a small thing as it is costing £67,000) After expressing concern at the proposal they have said the netting will be topped with flags This will be on the line of flight for coastal NEHU clubs - and also Scottish clubs venturing South of us who are also on the coast, as the Golf club is next to the North Sea/Redcar beach approaching South Gare So they will have wind turbines on one side to negotiate and netting on the other Do you think the netting would prove to be an obstacle - or will the birds 'see it'?
  25. Just awful. Tragic, words fail me, pure evil targetting children, thoughts are with all those involved in this tragedy
