  1. I would say - it is impossible to tell if there is anything wrong in or with the sample because there is no information provided - and I don't see how you can tell from those samples that there is any cocci in it The sample photos are not bright or clear enough to tell what if anything is there what magnification are you using? That is VERY important :-/

  5. When racing natural and the parents were in the basket - we stuck all the babies in the bowl of the one hen remaining - she wasn't raced at all - she was a good mum - but exhausted with one night - but did feed the lot - there were 5 of them and no room for her in the bowl - they were about 10 days old - ok for one night but not a good idea for 3 long term me thinks
  6. I bought some washable ones at the NEHU Show - these were on the Murray and Mills stand £3.00 for 10 as opposed to £2.00 for 10 for the 'horsehair' ones but agree its probably safer to bin than reuse

  20. You must vaccinate for PMV Check out this site for symptoms - and see how many different diseases it could be http://www.chevita.com/en/pigeons/symptoms/index.php scroll down the page for the list it takes days - not hours for a vet to culture a dropping sample for paratyphoid - so I doubt any checks have been done other than looking at the sample through a microscope for worms and cocci You should always vaccinate your birds for PMV (if you intend racing - you can't race without a vaccination certificate for the birds)
  21. How do you know its paratyphoid and not PMV? I think you need to take your birds to a vet

  25. Potassium Permanganate is an oxidising agent From Wikipedia: London chemist Henry Bollmann Condy had an interest in disinfectants, and marketed several products including ozonised water. He found that fusing pyrolusite with NaOH and dissolved it in water produced a solution with disinfectant properties. He patented this solution, and marketed it as Condy's Fluid. Although effective, the solution was not very stable. This was overcome by using KOH rather than NaOH. This was more stable, and had the advantage of easy conversion to the equally effective potassium permanganate crystals. This crystalline material was known as Condy’s crystals or Condy’s powder. Potassium permanganate was comparatively easy to manufacture so Condy was subsequently forced to spend considerable time in litigation in order to stop competitors from marketing products similar to Condy's Fluid or Condy's Crystals.
