Good on ya Allan. You've done better than me. I contacted Tony Blair's office and got junk, DEFRA also gave me junk, and along time it took aswell. Maybe if those that are in charge of our affairs, were as persistant as you we might have progressed further.
If you must treat. Why does my local vet, ( A pigeon fancier himself ) recommend, Don't treat. Colin Walker the pigeon vet, also says the same. Just as an asside, my lofts are enclosed. Clocked my pau pigeon in NRCC for 8th sec Perth yesterday.
I am so sorry to hear that Hyacinth. Can't help but wonder, if this sort of thing may be the future here. We have to fight this ban on channel racing, but we are lucky we can go north. I do hope you can get this dreadful imposition lifted.
Moult starts generaly this time of year, and will carry on till late Autumn. Mine have just started / starting. In reality they moult all year. They start nearest the body first, so the feathers farthest away from the body, will be last but, it will happen in time. GLAD YOU'VE LEFT WELL ALONE
Carl We stamp our birds 3 or 4 times a season and very rarely hear anything. If people wanted our birds we would give them freely, If they want them Amtrac we're happy to do that too. It does peeve me when they arrive home without rings. Reported then not returned. But there are some good guys/girls, one guy looked after one till her leg was better then she came on her own. Unfortunately I didn't keep his number. All I can remember is he was from Worcestershire.
Cock or hen Hyacinth's advice sounds about right extra oystershell grit all round may help too. Hyacinth sounds spot on but the big thing is it is a defficiency. A choice of 2 or 3 types of grit / pickstone + minerals will do the trick.
I'd have to agree with slatey. If you do isolate, you may have the same infection return after the first race. Get it over and done with. Cider vinegar, lemon juice, yoghurt, actimel, easy to find in most households.
Cider vinegar in the water. Table spoon per drinker. One table spoon natural yoghurt on the corn per half pound of food. Treat all in that section this way for a week. Sounds like it may be young bird sickness. This will acidify the gut and lower the activity of any infection. Another one could be lemon juice. Use what you have to hand first, actimel that sort of thing
Hey Westy she looks a real cutie. Look after her. It could be worse I got two ruddy great big lads, that look down on me. If I tell 'em to do something, I have to say please or else.
You'd have nothing to do without us. You all must love us very much. LOL
Hey Hyacinth I am also allergic to alcohol, it realy affects my knees then I fall over.
Top man Allan. If people take the course of action you suggest we may get results. What I would like to say to those following your excellent ideas, is try and make sure you ask pertinant questions in a polite manor.
This is a great forum for debate. I have no doubt that, well written politely asked questions, sent to your local MP or the sec of state, will do nothing but good. However just look at some of the vitriolic postings on her lately. I happen to think Mike is wrong, but I'd gladly stand by his right to have his say.
More power to ya keyboard Stuart & Hyacinth
