  1. I think it's good the RSPB spending money on here to advertise. They won't gain much and they have more than enough money from us.
  2. I just love to get 'em from the long uns 5 6 700 + miles. Tiz just an awe inspiring feat for such a small bundle o' feathers.

  5. Middle aged overweight lorry Thanks you very much.
  6. darken the pen mate
  7. I'll be having another go at Tarbes international as I failed to get one from Barcelona
  8. I do both wood chip in the bowl and tobacco or straw on the floor.
  9. I use rings and thought non fanciers would spot it easier. Had a bird reported and the person said he couldn't read it. Stamps or rings in the RPRA me thinks.

    Tobacco Stalks

I use tobacco stalks but I cut them in half first. If I cant get stalks, I'll buy some rolling baccy and put some in each nest. Great insectiside
  11. Tiz a problem if you're troubled with BOP but I don't train like that. Mine used to come with me where ever I went North West South or East.If they are any good they should go any where. Line of flight for sprinting me thinks an hours flight may be. There again I work at the distance.
  12. Sounds good to me
  13. Our first two races were cancelled by the club sec our next two were dissasters. So racing brought to a premature end. Don't think I've had it so bad for years. Not the birds fault. So why do I want to carry on.

    Moulting

I try and get mine out every day, as often as I can, 365 days a year. My young 'uns took half an hour to come out, but when they did, they still flew for over 2 hours tonight
  15. You can't cure a virus with antibiotics thats for sure
  16. Thanks guys that's what I was thinking. He's only 45 mins away but I shouldn't feed it. So what I leave it there while my racers come in.
  17. The thread is help what's wrong with my birds. First thing is you ask for antibiotics without knowing what is wrong. Give some symptoms and may be you'll getsome good advise. Time of year would suggest young bird sickness. Throwing up not digesting food wet slimy droppings. May be a teaspoon of household bleach in the drinker for 24 hours. Just a wild guess and may be way off but? Tell us more.
  18. I got a bird in from quarry bank. It's been sat on my trap for four days and we were racing today. I caught it on the trap cos I didn't want it there when mine come. Rang the owner as it must have had 6 wing stamps. He says can you chuck it out this way. I'm in Rugby I don't come your way. Can you chuck it when you go training. You know it'll come back to me. It will if you've fed it he says. sarcastic b*****d no wonder we get bad press.
  19. Think you'll find a 10 year old well up in this years Barcelona international
  20. They aint gonna dehydrate overnight and it does go against the grain I heard the household bleach long before I dared use it. It definately sounds counterintuitive, but it has worked for me the last two years. The day is already hear I now have two clubs I can get in and neither want to race the first young bird races.
  21. Young Bird Sickness. I would have thought more appropriately called a syndrome, as it would appear not to be one virus but a variety of problems together. Antibiotics then would be inappropriate and accidifying the gut with lemon juice or cider vinegar will only partialy help. I'm no vet but, a teaspoon of household bleach in the drinker on return from the first two races has worked well for me the last two years, further more I no longer train my birds to drink in the basket. They will soon learn to drink when racing, and they will not dehydrate over night, on the first race. If you have 10 crates the length of the transporter and 20 birds a crate. Why do you want your birds to drink the same water as 200 birds with YBS potentialy. Warwick fed had a tough un and this was our clubs first race my returns were the best in the club. Just a thought.
  22. washing basket up side down propped up with a stick tied to a piece of string put rice black eyed beans or bird seed under basket wait pull string easy aint it. Hmmmmmmmmmmm may be
  23. Hmmm I'd treat for worms first. I never seperate. Then take a dead un for autopsy. If they have gone skinny or going light I'd look at treating for cocci a few days after the worm treatment. In the mean time while waitng for results from the vet I'd be using 5ml of bleach in the drinker then next day 10ml of cider vinegar or lemon juice, alternating daily till you get some results.
  24. Funny that. Best bird I ever handled was sunrise. In my mind any way. I also handled a bird you couldn't give me. These two birds were both responsible for their owner winning the europa cup, for best points from Pau Tarbes Barcelona Perpignan and Marseille. Strangely enough a grizzle bred from this lofts birds is my best bird. Flown Palamos and Perth. (Is that north or south)
  25. Why would you start training before they've been roaming enough? I like mine to roam for an hour or more before they see the basket. I've never taken mine more than 15 mile for the first toss. I train mine at about 12. I do like the idea of going further but I'd be inclined to think you've gone too soon.
