  4. hi all have i got my genetic knowledge all wrong there as been a blue cheq gaby hen for sale on this site the sire being WITTENBUIK 360 the dam being MISTRESS i believe both these are blues i always thought that 2 blues paired together could only breed blues or blue with white feathering never blue cheqs could be that i am wrong with the colours of WITTENBUIK 360 and MISTRESS your thoughts please
  5. as geraint parry states there is one advertised in the RP for £15 its good value when you consider what you spend on cancker/cocci/and wormimg remedies when they maybe no need to treat the birds get them tested then you are sure what they need and what they dont need
  6. did anyone go to the jack and pat walker sale today
  7. spot on blackjack ok if a pigeon needs antibiotics for a specific complaint by all means give it to them but the ad/lib use of it is not only doing the bird but also the fancy in general a great deal of harm you only have to listen to members in your club they say their birds are not right so i got SOME STUFF off a mate and nine times out of ten its baytril or some other antibiotic over ten years ago a top avian vet told me that yes baytril will clear a lot of complaints up but he said that because the fancier used it and it did lift his birds they would use it again and this would do the birds no good at all in fact it would have the reverse effect ie would start to break down in immune system lets get our act together or we will be in the same state the Belguims are in having to dose their birds every other month[proping them up]
  8. years ago when a women was expecting a baby they would dangle a needle and cotton over the pregnant womans belly if it went ronnd it was thought to be a boy and if it swung side to side a girl
  9. never had a hen that has laid eggs change to a cock but have had young birds that have shown all the signs of been a cock to turn out to be hens as yearlings and vis versa it could be that their hormones are a bit mixed up as youngsters
  10. nest mate to nest mate is ok if you want them for stok then the youngsters off them should be paired together then next time you out cross we are assuming that you have a good cock or hen in the first place in doing it this way you are getting as close as possible to the parents
  11. jimmy weeder from liverpool has flown terrific with them for years a top man with great birds
  12. if you went to a sale 10 years ago nearly everyone had an eye glass looking into the pigeons eye i went with a pal yesterday to a sale and out of the 100 or so fanciers there only 1 was looking at the eyes with a glass have fanciers changed their thinking as regards to eye sign
  13. went to the sale they were a cracking team of birds a credit to the owners prices varied from £30.00 to£700
  14. i agree with whats being said but some fanciers send their young birds 50 miles for their first toss and dont seem to have a problem but they dont have a line of flight for this first toss they just come home
  15. good idea i think we should also target those taking early retirement there must be plenty who had a interest in their youth but had to curtail their interest because of work commitments or getting married and rearing a family now with all that done they may find they have plenty of time on their hands and maybe only need kick starting to get back into the sport just a thought
  16. good luck im sure you will do well
  17. hi all yes its very sad when a club disbands after so many years we had 4 clubs in our town up until 1994 when we held a meeting to join forces after one or two points were sorted out we formed our new club [the macclesfield flying club] all the assets were put together and we had a healthy membership of 40 members with only one secretarys fee to pay sadley now in the 2006 season we are down to 17 members due to the fact that some have left the sport or sadley passed away or left the area what will it be like in another 10 years time
  18. the gabys are probaly winning more big races at the present time thats a fact i was looking at the sale list in this weeks bhw for the rpra one loft race and noticed only 9 vandenabeeles in the first 364 birds timed in but some had strain unknown at the side of them so could be the odd one or two more ie the winner could be
  19. we take the old cocks out and close their boxes then we put the young cocks in to claim their boxes once fully protective of their boxes we put the old cocks back in one or two at a time over a period of one week then we take them all out and start to introduce the hens that they will be paired to next season into the loft and get them used to their boxes we find that when we come to pairing up time all the pairs know their boxes because no matter what box a cock has it will follow the hen into every box and mayhem is the orderof the day its just our way as we dont keep many birds
  20. roger sutton of congleton has won the L section many times and being well up in the open also but i dont remember him winning !st national must rank as one of the great flyer never to win first open
