we have found that young birds will eat straight away in the basket that is those nearest the feed trough the others have difficulty getting to it so we take out those that have eaten until all have eaten drinking is another matter we feed them in the loft and leave them without water for half an hour then we basket them with the water trough on and they drink almost straight away

i dont think there is a cure for ybs its a virus and cant be treated the products advertised are for help with ybs to stop secondry infection kicking in ei paratyphoid salmenella etc best natural product i have used is grapefruit seed extract from day one after weaning also if you use electrolites when they have ybs only use pure electrolites not the ones with added glucose as the virus feeds off the glucose perfectly all right to use electrolites with glucose on heathy birds

hi get an elastic band and wrap it round the flights on one wing this will stop the bird from getting airbourne after aweek release a few of the flights so it can fly on to the shed roof then after another few days when it is familiar with your loft and surroundings take the elastic band off you should have no trouble then
-
we usually move them around the 23 day mark but if you dont want the next round of eggs off the parents then move them at 17 days old along with thier mother they come on much faster because the mother isnt being pestered by its partner and just concentrates on feeding the youngsters you will see the difference

i agree with you peterpau we have only had a few pure whites over the years but have bred and raced brill bred out of the rapido busscherts but yes its true you can breed for colour but then again you can with blues also

if your only having them out once a day in the afternoo then you can give them a light feed of diet mix in the morning then top them up after afternoon exercice they will soon learn to trap because they are going at least 8 hours beetween meals from morning and afternoon feeds and longer beetween afternoon and morning feed

been on the darkness for several years with sucess doesnt affect them as yearlings the only drawback i se is that the feahters they are moulting now will stay with them as yearlings so maybe they are a bit weathered i know they moult a few unshed feathers at the end of the season but the magority have all been shed by end of june

hi if you are starting up or an established fancier the motto is just the same QUALITY NOT QUANTITY obviouslly that is easier said than done when starting up go for the time tested formula of going to a top fancier not to far away from your own area and ask to buy some latebreds off him or her they normally will sell them you for a fraction of the price you could pay at a big stud also they will generally be off either thier best breeders or racers most top fanciers are proud of their birds and will want them to do well for you

well said mike but i think its definetly down for the baggies
