  1. 1,000's of birds lost this year; and I've only had a couple of strays in all year. Usually with my loft where it is, you bring the odd one in every day or two, but for some reason not a feather this year really. Mind you I've seen a fair flock in the fields, cant be all ferals :-/

    PIGEON SALES

I think its because the Scots are more selective in what they want and are prepared to travel wherever needs be to get the right pigeons. ;D
  3. Thanks to everyone who has replied and pm'd me donating birds, etc. I've spoken to a few members of my club about having a sale. They're going to speak about it at the club meeting tonight, I'll know more within the next few days.
  4. I've been trying to get hold of my dad since I heard about what happened (I'm away from home and my birds), I hope to have some latebreds to put up on here to raise a few bob to help the lads, they helped me by breeding me birds when I started up, the least I can do is repay the favour. If anyone has any latebreds, etc that they would like to kindly donate please let me know and I'll put a sale together.
  5. I've just got a message through that one of my clubmates loft has been the victim to an arson attack. All of Alan Claydon and Wayne McKenna's young birds hens have been lost, and I'm told they've only 7 cocks, and some stock left. At 2:30 am last night the allotment next door was set alight and this spread to their lofts. Needless to say I'm gutted for these lads, they really put their heart and soul into their pigeons, and have had some cracking turns. If anyone has any information on the attack please contact Hartlepool Police.
  6. If your buying a decent sized loft they will travel People in my club/fed (North East) have a crack at making their own lofts from scratch, usually a few members all help out and some of the lofts built by them are remarkable.
  7. I understand they use colours to say if its fit for racing or not, but what goes into the calculation to say if its a good or bad day?
  8. If you read the first articles of the sporting challenge in the BHW this year, nearly all of these pigeons had had knocks, time missing from the loft, been hawked, etc. even Auld Reekie was settled from another loft after racing as a yb. All pigeons make mistakes, it's the good ones that learn from them.
  9. What information do they use on pigeon navigation to say if its going to be good or bad. I thought it was the k index, but that was reading green for yesterday ??)
  10. Bubwith, a dissused airfield. Just a small village north of Selby I think.
  11. Brilliant result, well done, I hope they feature well up in the combine result too.
  12. Welcome to the forum Blondie
  13. I sent 10, how many are away in the fed?
  14. First bird, the rubber matches up, a pigeon to the competing loft, I think it should be given. The about the clock rolls not being signed, the member is not allowed to handle his clock while its being opened and not allowed to have contact with the rubbers, etc.. I think this is completely out of the members hands, and should be given. I cant believe all of these mistakes have been made, I mean you wouldnt make these mistakes at your club, never mind a big money race like this! There should be a checker watching over what is written in the race register and watching the movement of race rubbers, my club uses a checker, and thats just club racing!
  15. Happy Birthday

    Black Cock

It is possible to post as a guest on the lost and found boards - as of only a few days ago.
  18. Your right (didnt see the post till just now) I took the photo when I was letting the birds get to know the basket. The way I basket them is I open the front (big) flap and round up the birds sheep dog style into the basket, close the flap and I'm away down the road. Its really quick and doesnt get the birds stressed if your catching them each time - they'll associate the stress of catching with the basket which aint how I want them to be ;D
  19. No Nonsense ;D ;D Well done, Mike and Chris.
  20. I've offered it to Shaun. It wont fit in my car, so not much use to me. Will let you know if its still available
  21. Hows this:
  22. I really hpe this is a steep learning curve for the NEHU. I know its their first time at running something like this, but I feel we have to question the organisation of the event; you can expect teething troubles, but not able to get a result out??!
  23. I think 33% is fairly shocking; even with the young bird losses reported around the county. You've got to remember that these birds have never got mixed up in club/fed baskets and have all been traveling for the same loft in all races and tosses, its not like they've had to break out from batches, the batch has been going where their going. Even with all these extra obstacles in our own lofts I'd be devastated with 66% losses. Anyhow, you pays your money and takes your chance. I agree with johno, I think its one of the better one loft races in this country and it wouldnt put me off sending in the future.

Its not nearly as big as Blackpool, but this is the first year at Temple Park, so may be different.
