  2. The rest of the UNC (that werent liberated earlier) have been held over from Bubwith(Selby).
  3. The UNC have started liberating at Thirsk, Wakefield and Selby. Selby liberations after the first few have been halted. Most of the top end have gone. Phone back 1:45!
  4. UNC no word until 11am
  5. Yup I'd take a pair off him and put him out to the channel events again next year, could come even better next time!
  6. I was told to use Domestos original. But as long as its hydrochloride bleach I dont think it makes any difference. I havnt tried the citrus fresh yet though ;D ;D
  7. Your bird comes straight in, you win, your bird goes round you lose. I wouldnt like to take the chance, not with competition being so fearce!
  8. Looks cloudy all day saturday with the odd shower; northern England. Sunday looks better at the moment, broken cloud. Saturday South West wind 8mph. Sunday North West wind 14mph.
  9. Touch wood, never had the full blown YBS; if I see a yb holding corn, or one has thrown their nights meal up, all I do is, the next day put a spoonfull of bleach in the water; it just disinfects it so the problem isnt passed round. Then its up to the yb itself to sort it out, I think its better if they overcome it themselves, but by the next night doing that they are usually back on, if not they get removed from the team.
  10. They certainly do! thats a mistake I wont be repeating again..haha Now I keep my fantail in with my ybs they soon get used to them, but you get some funny looks for the first few days.lol I use an Indian Fantail, they do the job well enough for me
  11. Yes the magnetic polls are always moving. At the moment the north pole and magnetic north are quite a bit off (cant remember how many miles). I think this is how carbon dating works, as they know where the pole was certain years, and whatever in the object will line up with these on the correct year. I watched a programme some time ago which was all about when the poles will be swapping! What will the birds do then!! :-/ Just found this: "Located hundred of miles south of the geographic North Pole lies the magnetic North Pole at approximately 82.7° North and 114.4° West (2005), northwest of Canada's Sverdrup Island. However, this location is not fixed and is moving continually, even on a daily basis." It goes on to say that magnetic north is moving about 25 miles per year!
  12. Looks like quite a few of the Scots birds came the wrong way if me and sbelbin have got them in on Teeside, same area, same time. Thats an idea I've been toying with for a while gez, not in the way you use it (which would be much better!) but to give us some idea when the birds will be home. I think however there are just too many variables; and what about, the winners will be over at a certain time, but thats not counting the many flocks of straglers that follow the convoy up the road sometimes a couple of hours behind!
  13. If your just starting out I'd let them out once a day and feed them when they trap back to the loft. The amount you feed will come to you with time, you will find that if you feed too much they wont trap up very well, but if you feed too little they wont fly very well. A rough guide would be an ounce per bird, thats about a tight handful each.
  14. I'll give the seccy a ring tonight for the NW pigeon, cheers billymac. Got another stray in today, GB S ring, got a telephone ring on so I'll be on the blower. Surprisingly enough I got one from Saturday today; maybe they are milling about still and will turn up eventually The K-Factor is something to do with geomagnetic emissions from the sun, I havent read the article in a while but heres the link: http://www.pigeonbasics.com/articles/article2.html
  15. 3489 i think the ring number is, she'll get a good feed for a few days then offered the chance to continue her journey, unless shes yours!! (think its a hen!)
  16. Its got me stumped. I honestly dont think anything to the mobile phone mast theory, but what can it be? Surely not all these birds we breed now are rubbish? Does anyone still look at the K-Factor, I found that to be some correlation to my losses last year, but havent checked this year :-/ Got a NW pigeon in tonight, they were at Scotch Corner on Saturday werent they?
  17. Whats up with yb returns? It seems that if you dont get them on the day you never see them again. Whats different these days thats stopping them coming through? A few years ago I had a bird home on the Sunday of the race to win the club the following week, no chance of repeating that hey :X mealybar
