Movement controls and licences There aren’t any specific movement controls or licences at the moment. Bird fairs, markets, shows and other gatherings We have published guidance on when you need a licence for a bird gathering and how to follow the licence conditions. Gatherings or shows of poultry and other captive birds have not been banned or restricted under the Prevention Zones which are currently in force across England, Scotland and Wales. This is all I could find from D E F R A site It doesn't say anything about imports though perhaps you could email them and ask they say you might not get an answer for 15 days but they answered me in one , best of luck sandy

FAO all SHU members – The following affects you – Gatherings such as shows areNOT affected  Dear Colleague  You may wish to note a Scottish Government press release issued this evening.  At 17:00hrs on 6 December 2016 Scottish Ministers declared an Avian Influenza Prevention Zone covering the whole of Scotland, requiring that all poultry and captive birds must be kept indoors, or otherwise kept separate from wild birds. Bird keepers must also apply heightened biosecurity measures where practical. The full text of the declaration, including the list of requirements for bird keepers, can be found at www.gov.scot/avianinfluenza, however, a copy of the declaration is attached for your information. A risk assessment assessing the effect of housing on the risk from H5N8 has also been published.  The zone will be kept under review and will initially remain in place for 30 days.  Outbreaks of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (H5N8) have been confirmed in poultry and wild birds in several countries across Europe. No cases of H5N8 have been found recently in the UKand this Prevention Zone is a precautionary measure to help prevent potential infection in captive birds and poultry from wild birds.  You may wish to pass this alert on to your members as appropriate.  Kind regards  Alastair Douglas Â

Thank you for your email.  I have copied the guidance below from GOV.UK which covers taking birds to shows. All up to date information can also be found here : https://www.gov.uk/guidance/avian-influenza-bird-flu  Here is the guidance.  GATHERINGS AND SHOWS Q. Am I still able to show birds as they will be kept in baskets and cages, etc? •       Gatherings of poultry and other captive birds have not been banned or restricted. •       You should ensure you maintain good biosecurity  •       Birds should be well and fit for the intended journey. •       Birds and containers should be kept clean as far as possible Q. Should I cancel shows/fairs/school visits etc? •       Not necessarily. Provided that your birds are kept separate from wild birds such events can still go ahead.   Kind regards  Krista Rooney Correspondence and Business Planning Manager Executive Support and Correspondence Management Unit mail from APHA TODAY

Bird restrictions ordered over avain flu... That scottish government has ordered that ALL POULTRY and CATPIVE BIRDS MUST be kept INDOORS .after an alert over avain flu . In a precautionary step it has declared an Avain influenza prevention zone . It said it was reacting to multiple reports of the disease causing deaths among wild birds in mainland europe ... THE RESTRICTIONS COVER THE WHOLE OF SCOTLAND AND WILL BE IN PLACE FOR 30 DAYS FROM TODAY .... This taken from bbc news report .. well what can I say . poor birds of prey will just have to eat wild .maybe they'll starve maybe they'll even get the flu maybe the RSSPB will have to feed them oh what a tragedy need to watch they dont start buying up pigeons . Maybe it would have been a better idea if they had sponsored a dove release at the match to commemorate the poor guys who lost their lives and are buried on foriegn soil lots of whom dont even have a marked grave .. maybe the pigeon unions could organise this for 2018 to commemorate the centenary . every club in the land could have their own small contribution What do you think? Remember we have 2 years to organise it .Come on guys lets not forget what they gave.... all the best sandy..
