  1. morning all
  2. your wellcome pal we all have to learn m8 and you never stop learning in the pigeon game good luck and enjoy your pigeons thats what its all about
  3. used to think the same greenbar and did train in the rain offten but im afraid its not true i still got hit just as often m8 tried first light and just before dark to think its just your luck if they are hunting in that area when you toss or some poor bugger has been up and fed them before you toss we all know the only thing that works anything else we are just kidding ourselves and now is the time before training starts
  4. jim had the same problem when i tried to explain there use to him a total novice but much easyer if you can show them ive maybe confused the poor guy even more lol
  5. think i see what your asking m8 the widowhood plastic fronts can be used for pigeons on widowhood or pigeons on natural flying one side is just plastic spars the other side the same but with a sliding door when the box is closed the two halfs cover the front of the nestbox which keeps the birds out the box when there not breeding and in this position gives the pair plenty of room when you pair your birds together you can leave the pair locked in like this for a day or two to make sure they mate and to get them used to there box after a day or two take the cock out and turn the half with the door to the inside this now halfs the box in two with the hen in the closed off half this will allow the cock to see his hen and fly up into the other half of the box but he can not get into the hen this gets him used to flying in and out of his own box after a few hours you can open the sliding door and clip it at the top in the open position so the pair can both get in and out of the box together you now add a nestbowl to the closed half and from then on the door is in the opened position at all times so birds can get into the half with the bowl lay eggs and rear youngbirds lots of cocks sit in the open half of the box while his hen sits on the eggs so he can chase other birds away that come near there box thats the funtion of the widowhood front with natural birds when flying widowhood the front is in the same position so the cock lives in his open half of the box and his hen can be put in the other half locked in till he gets home but lots of variations in this system but thats the main function of the widowhood front as best as i can explain it to someone who does not know what it is hope this is what your looking for m8
  6. ovy is correct in saying the light can interfere with the pairents moult but i think this only happens if the pairents are not right through the moult ie maybe still on there end flight 4or5 years ago when i was playing with december breeding i had the light on from 3to9 at night and everything went ok it was a pretty mild year the following year it was bitter cold in december and some of my stock birds were still on there last flight because it was so cold i thought it would be a good idea to leave the lights on 24 7 as the heat from the bulbs were taking the chill out the air and it stoped my drinkers from freezing which i thought was good but when i handled some of the stock birds after a few weeks i was shocked to fined there end flight was over three inch longer than the rest of the flights so lesson learned have to be very carefull with lights when birds are still moulting but good luck with it m8 let us know how you get on
  7. im saying nothing
  8. well done to celtic a good draw i thought
  9. billy you were the man that showed me birds can be clear this week and have canker next week and internal canker anytime also which many dont see till its to late since ive been treating ive been flying better and thats the yard stick i use m8 canker can flare up at anytime in a pigeon so it must be there in the first place just like cocci but thats here nor there the point is since ive been treating my birds have done better so im sticking to that many most top lofts that are much better fanciers than me do the same so proofs in the pudding for me billy
  10. thankyou gav glad if it helped you in any way 14 yb in a 6x4 should be ok m8 with plenty air getting into the loft as stevie says a wire door is a big help for air and letting the birds see around good luck with it and the main thing is enjoy your pigeons and learn from the guys who win not the guys that think they will win and you will do ok
  11. all pigeons have canker m8 imo you can send swaps away one week and be clear and have a high canker count the next week and since ive been treating mine the past few years my results have been better and have done the birds no harm so i choose to treat as most of the top lofts do also so must be something in it years ago i did not treat for anything and was an also ran but now i treat before racing and every third week when racing starts with much better results so thats the way it is for me if someone comes on and tells me they have had great results when not treating i may try that again but just now more top fanciers treat than dont and thats good enough for me if it aint broke dont fix it ps as soon as racing stops they get nowt but feed and water and it works fine for me but everyone to there own if your happy with your results dont treat im never happy jmo and off season to me is when the birds stop racing till i pair my racers the following year
  12. hope it all works out pal
  13. says it all about the country we live in when they ask you to send 2 pounds a month to save a child and 3pounds a month to save a dog
  14. that reminds me of an old lady that stayed two doors down from me at my old place her name was mrs semple and she lived alone and was a wee bit dolly dimple she had a big whitefluffy cat called snowy three mornings in a row i came off the nightshift to find snowy curled up on my landing board i lifted it off and took it to the old ladies door and chapped her up mrs semple i said thats 3 mornings in row ive caught your cat on my landing board my birds are terified the old lady says mr boswell i dont know if snowy is deaf someone told me many white cats are deaf whats that got to do with it i said well says she every night i let snowy out i say to him now snowy dont you go near mr boswells pigeons i knew i was beat so said nothing and walked away she was so sincere the following week poor snowy got run over with a van so i gave the old dear one of my jack russel pups so all worked out well in the end lol
  15. the more vents the better imo gav
  16. if your getting a garden shed make sure its of weather board not shiplap to thin and drafty also make sure its a flat roof shed as some apex roof sheds are only 5 foot at the eves taking away lots of space and turning you into a hunchback with lots of lumps on your head
  17. been tried james no one wants to know or cares if pigeons are being killed m8
  18. the other thing you may have in your favour is the allmost 24 hours of daylight might help latebreds mature sooner who knows
  19. birds and loft looking good sparko the only problem with latebred hens is some of them can go through all the motions breeding nesting but not lay for months so dont be to worried its just that there bodies are not mature enough the will all lay in time but only when there body clock tells them to good luck with them m8 hope you get what you want off them they look in great condition anyway
  20. if she has only been laying one egg andy and an old hen would tend to think she is about to stop laying ie running out of eggs each hen only has so many eggs in her body some more than others just have to play it by ear pal see what happens as wiley says you could try slipping her one if she sits it swap it for a live egg sometimes rearing a yb can stimulate them into laying again worth a try if its a good hen pal
  21. i treat mine when there on eggs and dont bother if some have not layed they still get treated same as the rest never had a problem used to treat them 14days before pairing to and worked just as well
  22. think the coalburn and lesmahagow boys are in for trouble saw the pair at riggside quarry hunting yesterday when out on my run then seen a big hen at the golf course hunting training will be fun this year again
