i have 1 stock cock with a chest frill (stanley) he is not crossed and neither is his hen .at stock 3 years ,produced 12 young so far ,last year 1 hen with a frill (only 1 from 12) .but i dont know why ,or in all honesty care too much .happy enough with them regardless .
we have "pope hat" drinkers in the white doo,s lofts ,on a good layer of easibed ,and they dont freeze unless below 8 degrees ,they were frozen today first 3 races last year were North East winds ,was predicted then it would be that way for the next decade brrrrrr
couldnt quite get round that one Keith , i have made a decision today ,,,,,,, to kick them out anyway .have been getting a little fed up with the weather ,and having them locked up for so long
ok now understand better .how important is it to you ,that you have young off him ?? if not , race him dry .like to add ,i dont have as much experience as you .just sometimes a problem shared ,is a problem halved.
i have also plugged holes in the crop with vaseline .this was after a hen returned with 2 holes in the front ,and as she drank the water was coming straight out . wound repaired well ,and she was fine afterwards .
