sorry to hear about your problems kev (and u other lads) it must be soul destroying to find one of your own birds dead after being attacked by these murdering b*stards > ok so even bops have to eat but its down to the r**b that they have now reached saturation point and all they wanna do is bury their heads in the sand and pretend it aint happening > the way things are going bop wise i just cant see how pigeon racing will be here in 10 years kev

pigeon health are cheap but whenever i send samples away they always come back with a bacterial infection and i know of other fanciers who have had the same results? they are fast and polite but next time im gonna try somebody else just to see what comes back? kev
-
hi all, after all our problems with feather rot (it was caused by a mite and not the fungal type) we have now found an effective cure, we all chipped in together and it worked out much cheaper so if anyone is having the same problems as we had then pm us and maybe we can help, after all why should we all have to pay sky high prices ? kev

can you lay your hands on some rice, lentils,or barley or budgie seed chubsta as that would tide the bird over for now as fifer said the green droppings are probably due to hunger but at least the bird is out of harms way or maybe a pigeon fancier lives nearby who could help you out with some pigeon corn, if i lived a bit nearer i would collect it from you myself but its a bit of a drive from crawley can any of you kent fanciers help out? kev

as distancer said he could have ended up in the wrong hands he was was lucky u found him talk about landing on your feet well done vanreets for taking him in and giving him a good home kev

had a flown out yb in last week josh and i noticed runny droppings after i had put it in a basket but by the next day its droppings had firmed up,all it needed was a feed/drink and some rest dont forget that the stress of getting lost doesnt help but to be on the safe side i would still separate it i like to think that my birds will get help if they enter another loft all the best kev

im suprised but pleased to hear that some of you are not being hit by bops and long may your good luck continue ive seen the crows chasing a hawk myself so i encourage them now with titbits and as for the cats i know how you feel vallance as i had problems with a cat myself but luckily the neighbours/cat moved so i dont have that problem anymore all the best kev

thats that i like to see, fanciers helping each other out well done dodgy trapper

ive had 2 strays in at different months of the same year belonging to the same fancier but never 2 within 2 weeks belonging to the same fancier well done blue tooner for making the effort and reporting them sometimes all a bird needs is a nights rest and a feed and then its ready to leave on its own steam the next morning kev
-
when reporting strays the conversation usually works its way around to bops but every now and then i get a fancier who says he doesnt have a bop problem, are you one of the lucky ones ? kev :-/
-
stunning scenery mick and grand looking birds as well but i would worry about the bops but saying that i live on an estate and still get hit by s/hawks so nowadays it doesnt seem to matter where you live as they are everywhere > kev

the regular mix will be fine mandy, when you get your yb mix on friday just mix it all up together and then your birds get the benefit of all the different grains and all the different vitamins in them alot of the pigeon mixes have the same grains but just in different amounts all the best kev

as u all pretty much agree then il carry on doing what im doing and well done gazza 1 for making a 280ml round trip to collect your pigeon especially as it was with a non fancier i understand that some fanciers are short of cash but as gazza 1 says our pigeon so our responsibility and i couldnt agree more kev
-
i would just like to ask what u do with strays that enter your loft? i get some that only take a drink and then take off but others that are flown out which i keep overnight and feed/water em then release em next morning but if they stay i usually take em a couple of miles away from the loft and release em knowing that theyve been fed/watered and should be able to get back back home under their own steam some of these strays come back to my loft and refuse to leave but when i report them all i get is the usual excuses such as do u want to keep it as its well bred or i cant afford to send for it,etc i like to think that if one of my birds enters somebodys loft that they will feed/water it and then report it to me if it doesnt leave their loft under its own steam but going by some fanciers reactions recently im beginning to think that im doing something wrong-what do u think? kev
-
report it wings like numpty said i know what you mean about crap attitude though as i reported one yesterday and the owner said he would ring back but didnt so i called him today and he really couldnt give a t-ss i know it costs money to send for them but ive done it myself and if a stray wont clear then the owner should send for it i go out of my way to feed/water strays and then release them away from my loft so the least owners can do is return my call kev

brilliant post cheq pied i was born 1961 and well remember having a dripping sarnie and then going out all day with my mates and doing stuff like going downhill at full pelt without brakes, climbing onto derelict building roofs to catch pigeons, annoying the local parkeeper, etc and we didnt go home till our dads came looking for us when it was dark:) ;D brilliant memories but nowadays kids are too busy sitting on their ars- playing on the pc i got taken home more than once by the local copper for getting into mischief and paid the price but i wouldnt have changed it for the world they really were the good old days and as for my mums bread pudding mmmm i can still remember it now we were certainly bred tougher in days gone by does anybody remember the bakers vans and rag and bone man that used to drive up your street? kev

im only a novice but if everyone stopped racing for a couple of years wouldnt percy and s/hawks just survive on feral pigeons and whats left of our wild birds? dont get me wrong as i think that nobody is gonna help us but ourselves and that we need to take action but its getting fanciers who are prepared to do that as i said im only a novice and i know that percy and s/hawks take a hell of a lot of our pigeons(which we should be allowed to protect by law ourselves) but wouldnt they survive taking feral pigeons as theres enough of em in our towns, cities and villages i totally agree that its now got to the stage where somethings gotta be done kev >

i just found some dried blood on a perch and when i checked the pigeon sitting there it had a small round hole about the size of a cotton bud tip between the chest and leg area, ive cleaned out the wound as best as i can as some small down feathers had got into it and have started the bird on amoxicillin to treat any infection but im now concerned that the bird may have a lead pellet stuck deep inside the wound? also i did wonder if the bird may have flown onto or caught itself on a nail or screw etc but cant find anything in the loft that may have caused it :-/ do you think a pellet would have gone straight through and out its back? ive looked but cant find an exit wound have any other fanciers had experience with shot wounds who can give me advice kev
-
thanks for taking care of a lost racing pigeon cameus its sounds as if its exhausted itself trying to find its way home but after a few days of rest it may fly back home itself you can feed it wild bird seed, rice, barley, wheat etc and it will need access to clean water in a small dish try releasing it after a few days or ring the welsh homing union to trace the owner via its ring no. kevin
