  1. Hi all, i apologise if this question has already been asked but, What time of year do you pair up and do you pair your stock and race teams up at different times ??? thanx in advance sharron ;D
  2. thanx Redcheqhen i thought id heard they were at least frowned upon, didnt know they were totally outlawed lol i think i shall invest in a wing stamp, i did use the clippy ones on the young birds last year, but i got a young hen back from the stray centre and someone had actually removed my address + tel ring, and replaced it with a plain clip ring, strangely enough they left her race rubber on, and they didnt phone me about her, she only came back a month later via transporter, so i felt them a waste of cash and was very dissapointed in whoever took it off and didnt phone me, i think the fact that i went to the trouble of ringing with my contact details made it plain i wished to be informed. So i was hoping to use something more premanent, never mind sharron
  3. Hi all, Does anyone ring there youngsters with the boddy + ridewood permenant name and address rings ?? if so does it effect putting on /removing race rubbers as birds would then have a permenant ring on each leg, and would this method or id be frowned upon in the club ?? thanx sharron
  4. Hi all, does anyone vaccinate using this ? if so what are the pros/ cons of vaccinating against pox, is it worth it??? ;D thanx Sharron
  5. Hi i have a question about training, i race on the south road and in the past have just trained based on the line of flight the birds would take to get home from a race with my furthest training toss being thirsk. But now im at university i go to newcastle daily (which is north) about an hours drive away, this means im not going to have the time or the finances to train as much as id like. Would it be suicide to toss them in newcastle provided i built up the distance in stages. Or would it mean on a race day they would overfly my loft and head off for newcastle, or even worse would they get totally confused when i tossed them in the north for the 1st time and head off for the highlands of scotland !! :-/ thanx in advance sharron
  6. ps what time does it start/finish
  7. thanx for the replies i should be at the south shields show on sat, i did have an inkling that it was this coming weekend, it will be my 1st nosey at a pigeon show since i was about 12 lol, im quite looking forward to it, alas it will prob be the only one i get to attend as i have university exams in jan and i was fighting a loosing battle convincing my mum to take me to blackpool anyway, she thinks im a bit insane taking over the birds, as they arnt her cup of tea so to speak at all. it took me all my powers of persuasion to get her to take me to south shields ;D all the best sharron
  8. Hi can anyone confirm the date of the NEHU show and the venue thanx sharron
  9. i use a pair of huge feather legged crossbreed things(very stunning to look at especially the cock), they are a cock and a hen and are both well into there teens agewise, i dont even bother to clip them down anymore they know there job better than i do, i only use them for the youngbirds to teach them to eat ect and to trap on race day as i use open door system, for the old birds i rely on the sputnick trap and lots of training to get them to happily go in ;D chatrace how the hell did the hawk get that thru the wire like that ?! i keep my stock birds with free acsess to a flight pen like that and you have me worried now that mr effing hawk will get them as iv seen one cruising but always assumed that all birds were safe as a had nothing out eg everything behind wire
  10. Hi all, iv just been informed by my club sec that the club i race with (Shotton palms) is folding due to lack of members :'( Although it will be possible for me to join another local club it is an awful blow as my late father was a founding member of my current club ( i can honestly say im glad he isnt around to witness its demise) i sopose it just proves that pigeon racing is a dying sport :'(
  11. i think i fit into the FLYER catagory lol, i love to race them but the most pleasure i find is just to watch them fly round the house, coo in the loft and come home safe at the end of the day, if i place its just a happy bonus ;D
  12. good luck with your little pidge, i hope he gets well ! he is lucky to have found someone so compassionate as you ;D all the best
  13. is this type of show open to genuine racing pigeons ?? or are we talking about a specially bred show type, ??
  14. anything else returned paulo, i got a youngster back today totally out of the blue (i just saw it sitting on the landing board) and it must have been missing since may it dissapeared off the loft when still squeaking, so god knows were she's been (in someones loft by the look of it *grrr*) iv stuck her in an isolation box incase she is harbouring any nasties, and will give her a week or two and see if she feels like staying with her rightful owner !!
  15. he is still the same no better no worse, droppings normal, eating and drinking, holding weight (NOT going light) but wont perch and seems unsteady on his feet, But he isnt hunched up and doesnt seem to be in pain, he is still isolated and iv totally disinfected all lofts and utensils using a disinfectant called avisan (or something along those lines, cant quite remember what its called) and set up a foot dip which i can use to prevent me treading anything from section to section and as a booster i have added a multi vit to the drinkers. touch wood nothing else so far seems to be showing signs of illness. i hope he comes alright as iv had him 13yrs and he is a bit of an old favorite :'(
  16. i too thought 20 was the maximum and it was also my understanding that birds sold were transfered, but the breeder had a chance at the breeder prize (which of course comes without the stress of having to train the bird yourself)
  17. i think i will get 2 or 3 just for the crack next year as im feeling a bit left out lol two to keep and maybe 1 to put in the sale
  18. you guys have me paranioid now !!! ive just had the old birds out and one was dropping a wing (not both wings just the one) it is drizzling tho and they are all trying to have a shower on the lawn, do you think its just coz she is wet ?? i think you would have to cull me too if my birds had to go id never be able to afford to replace them :'( :-/
  19. You lucky thing CS !!! my dad used to go over to belgium once a year and bring back a youngen or 2 he brought back jet black ones once they were lovely i think the strain was called archie lewis, they did quite well and won a few cards but alas my dad was prone to change pigeons as oftern as underwear, if they didnt win immediatly he used to get rid !! which was a shame as he oftern didnt give them a fair trial. havent the importation rules regarding bringing birds to the uk become tighter since avian flu scare ?? sharron
  20. Murder is murder in my oppinion, he could have found a better way to express his feelings than that, its never the answer to kill another human being !! and his actions can only have a negative effect on the sport sharron my thoughts are with the poor womans family
  21. Blackpool was great, im my memory the venue was neverending, but i was 14 at the time, i can remember we even went back on the evening to watch the judging of the show classes, so many birds for sale as well !!! i always used to want the early bred youngsters that were imported from belg, but alas my dad never gave in and got me any !! > if i go this year im taking plenty of ££££ chocolate melumans spring to mind lol ;D sharron
  22. ;D jimmy's pieds arrived on tues and are settling in well, they have claimed a next box and our now free to roam the loft (exept when i let the oldies out for exersize, when i lock them in to prevent them flying home to jimmy) they are proving to be quite tame and friendly providing you bribe them with a peanut or two, hoping the hen will go to nest soon so i can add a splogy coloured squeak to my youngbird team for racing next year as a yearling ;D i will try and get some photo's up in the next few days to show them settling in (would have had them up sooner but my computer seems to be powered by an intel pentium dinosour and its tiny mind cannot cope so i am wating till my brother can transfer them onto disk for me. using his stunningly up to date pc lol ) sharron xxx
  23. are they still available ?? if so what lines are they e.g what champions are in there pedigrees ?? thanx i already have pouw janssens both direct and thru paige, including a son of de rappe and a son of het raketje at stock, but im always looking to add quality birds both to stock and to the race team. thanx
  24. Hi, i noticed that my tumbler dropper in the young bird racing loft doesnt look too well, he is 13yrs old and well into the moult, he seems very out of charactor (you can walk right up and pick him up which for him isnt normal) but his droppings are normal and he is eating and drinking as usual, he isnt hunched up or anything he just seems a bit unsteady on his feet and a little disorientated prefering to sit on the loft floor rather than perch (he has been like this for a few days) so iv put him in isolation incase its something Sinister like a contageous disease what do you guys think thanx in advance sharron
  25. :DDo you think they will have a futurity race next season as i didnt get rings this year and now i aint half regretting it lol
