  5. isnt oil based vaccine more prone to adverse reaction than the water based one ???
  6. but having said that most vets know less about pigeons and there ailments (or just dont seem to care) than fanciers, whish is a shame :'(
  7. Only use when you have a definate diagnosis, Antibiotics are about as much use as a chocolate fire guard against a virus, they dont cure it at all and only help birds develop a resistance so that when you really need the antibiotic it wont work, also some antibiotics are bacteria specific rather than broad based so you need a certain one for a certain illness, and often the broad based ones destroy the good bacteria along with the bad ;D in my oppinion they should be used with caution and certainly not incorperated into a regular treatment routine without extreame good cause sharron ;D
  8. p.s please only make an offer if you are really genuine and fully intend on following it thru thanx
  9. iv used the econimic delivery and i fall within delivery zone 1 i think in the cataloge and its never taken the full 14days, its been 7 at most ;D
  10. iv had no problems with deliveries, they may not be imediate but always seem to come within a week ;D
  11. trust me i wont be doing this again, but the ring in question came with a pigeon attached so transfer is a must im afraid ;D i new about the stamps bit, which was what i presumed was to cover postage, but not the £1.50 admin. if thats all thats required i will post it off tommorow ps tammy i will also re-attempt to send rings this time in a fort kox type padded envelope all the best sharron ;D
  12. did anyone go then ??? buy anything ?
  13. thanx shadow, just checking as iv already had the thing sent back once for not including the £1.50 (nowhere on the transfer did it tell me there was a fee and the fancier who gave me the bird didnt mention it either : So i want to get it right this time ;D sharron
  14. there is sort of a limit in my club at the begining of the season you have to nominate the amount of birds maximum you want to send each week eg 20 f0r which you pay £1 per bird on top of your sub fees, so you can sent any amount of birds away as trainers but only the 1st say 20 on the sheet are racing for points/money. i dont see the point personally as if a fancier feels like it he can pay a one off fee of £100 and nominate 100 birds to race that season in each race for points/money so it doesnt really limit mob flyers it just pulls at there pockets i myself as a newbie at this system of flying (my previous club folded over the winter) was advised to nominate 20 and send the odd extra as a trainer ;D sharron
  15. i wish someone would set up one of these in the north east of england *hint* *hint* *cough* *cough* lol ;D
  16. good luck to all those who have bought rings, i may try and pick a young bird up at one of the breeder/buyer sales for this race, as any bird of mine would probably set off in the wrong direction lol on a funny note one of my youngbirds i sent to the 1st race at bubworth about 67 miles south this year did just that and was reported in cambridgshire needless to say i was relived when the fancier was willing to accept a transfer :B :B
  17. hope those who went had a good weekend ? i had an unfortunately placed exam yesterday morning which stopped me going, maybe next year what did people buy ? ;D
  18. thanx red cheq hen in that case i will do the stocks next weekend when im free and try and arrange for the oldies to be re -done, i had them done mid feb last year, is it best to hang on and try and have them done around the same time every year ??
  19. the £1.50 transfer fee can i send it via cheque, payable to the scottish homing union ? or do i have to get a postal order ??? thanx sharron
  20. iv seen the effects of pigeon lung 1st hand, my dad suffered really badly and at the end was on oxygen 16hrs a day, it wasnt what killed him but it certainly restricted his quality of life in his last few years, he was a pigeon fancier for over 55yrs and never gave up, alas he only started wearing masks and a loft coat when it was too late. :'( my advice is get tested and always wear a seperate loft coat and a mask when you go in with the birds, if i ever showed symtoms the birds would have to go im afraid, nothings worth your health
  21. isnt there that saying that prevention is better than cure, after reading all your posts i will be vaccinationg my stock birds along with everything else including the droppers ;D i really dont want this disease, and at least its reasonably cheap to vaccinate it would be exeptionally expensive to replace the birds not to mention distressing. just think £27 odd vaccinates 100 birds iv just paid £60 to have one horse tetenus boostered which is yearly but id not go without as new horses cost alot to replace too lol ps when is the best time to vaccinate old birds for racing ??? and can i vaccinate the stock anytime or do i have to have them signed off by the club too ;D all the best sharron
  22. a query to add onto this post, inherited all my stock last feb and as far as i know the stock birds are not/have never been vaccinated, the stock loft is on the other side of the garden to the race loft but they do have unrestricted acsess to a large wire flight area, no new birds have been added other than the odd one that was bred in the stock loft and kept for stock from day 1 . Do you think i should vaccinate my stocks ??
  23. Here is a pic of the hen it was taken this morning in the rain, please be aware im no photographer and she has constant acsess to an aviery as do all my stock birds so was a bit damp i should be able to get further pics of her looking a bit dryer and bonnier over the weekend weather permitting ;D best wishes sharron

  25. hi, im considering switching my birds to open hole, as university is restricting the time i have available to routinely exersize them, are there any fanciers that use open hole and can it be used for both young + old birds ??? does it really help them to become more streetwise or will they just sit on the houses all day and attract complaints from my neighbours ? also i dont currently have a hawk problem but they have been known the frequent the area in years past, i dont want to become a hawk magnet either. The old birds are flown on the natural system, and the young birds are flown to the perch. it wasnt my intention to hopper feed them, i was still planning to feed am + pm thanx in advance sharron ps i also wasnt intending for this to replace training tosses, its just an extra thought to try and increase fitness levels.
