The Joe Shore birds were real quality. I had a friend who introduced them into this area and wone with them almost immediately. I believe the originals were managed very close to nature. Unfortunately I don't know anyone who has these now.

I will introduce some sprinters as I let all mine go previously. As I took redundancy I think that will mean I now have the time to try racing these on a jealousy system for a bit of fun in the club.

At one point in time fanciers always purged their birds using Epsom salts. The practice is outdated but one thing they never realised was that Epsom salts provided Magnesium which is essential for muscle formation. There may be some logic in adding this to the water in minute quantities on a daywhen you would normally add electrolytes.

That was my experience many years ago and I will always fondly remember the gentleman who befriended me and eventually gifted me a youngster from his 500 mile combine winner. And believe me I never even requested the gift bird it was a complete surprise.

Speaking as a novice that is.

The best thing a novice can do is to befriend a top local fancier who is genuine---by genuine I mean interested in the future of the sport and prepared to help a novice. When you have made this aquaintance never talk when you should be listening. Ask questions and you will benefit from his experience and if you are fortunate he will gift you birds from his best.

I agree totally with this post. Using vaccine after the seal has been broken is probably one of the main reasons why pigeons which are vaccinated with vaccine which has been stored in this manner continue to catch the disease. It is factory sealed with a septum cap for good reason.

Every topic raised will always attract different opinions. We are all entitled to these opinions and also to express them. However we should express them with sensitivity towards others and their feelings. Any behaviour other than that is insulting and qualifies the poster as an insensitive idiot.

Like everyone else my thoughts are with the families of the soldiers whose lives were pointlesssly sacrificed. Having said that we are all entitled to our political and religeous opinions. I do, however believe, that these thoughts are private and should not be forced on others as seems to happen all too often on this site. I live in an area where religeon and politics have actually caused pigeon clubs to disband. I simply cannot see the connection between pigeons and religeon.

What Davy is discussing is an exercise run by the SHU and the traps are supplied by them. They can be bought on e-bay but t is illegal to own one. Many fanciers have them

Frank--I think the purpos of the transmitter is to prove that the captured birds can still live a normal life when relocated. This has to be proven I think to then ask that licences be granted to make trapping and release legal. If fanciers are granted a licence legally then I suppose they could be relocated into any dustbin. I believe all the captured birds have been released in South Ayrshire. But do I understand that this one has returned to Davy Flemming from there. How far is that? Is this a homing Sparrowhawk?

I fear you might be struggling under an illusion here. One bird was sold to Jim Biss and was generations removed from any winners. The last race Henry flew was in 1968 and his best position was 3rd Lancaster---about 120 miles.
