  1. Have you used the medication for the required length of time. If you are talking about antibiotics they must be administered for 10-14 days. They must be appropriate to the condition. There is always the chance this might be due to physical damage.
  2. Obviously this is a discussion thread to make members aware of the proposals before the agm. Both now and in the future all organisations will be trying to economise on convoying expenses--that is common sense. Having said all this I firmly believe that racing from Andrezel with the UNC will never provide a National winner in the West. For West section fanciers we will only ever be competing for section prizes from this racepoint.
  3. It's the old belief that Belgian birds are better than ours. If the Macaloneys had Belgian rings on their birds last week they would have doubled the money.
  4. Further to the above post I would also add that the Ammonia used in the Solvay process is a catalyst used to buffer the pH during the reaction to ensure that the correct product is formed. A catalyst simply helps a reaction to go to completion and takes no part in the reaction.
  5. Firstly before asking me to check my facts you need to be aware that I have an honours degree in Chemistry and 40 years experience working in the Chemical industry in a variety of posts. I am afraid you are reading information and not understanding it properly. It does not matter what ingredients are used in the production of any compound there are none of them remaining in the end product. All unreacted reactants are washed out and that product purified till it is 100% pure. The reaction is irreversible and the reactants cannot be regenerated. Sodium Bicarbonate is exactly that---100%---no impurities of any kind. The formula is NaHCO3. This is a combination of 1 Sodium and 1 Hydrogen with 1 carbonyl group. That is the composition of the humble Sodium Bicarbonate molecule. There is no Nitrogen or Ammonia present so you cannot be giving Ammonia to the birds. Wine is made by the fermentation of Grapes and yeast in it's simplest form. Try what you may with a bottle of red you will never regenerate the original grapes. I hope this clears up any misunderstanding.
  6. I AM not interested in this arguement in any way but adding Bicarbonate of soda to water and allowing the birds to drink it cannot produce ammonia. It is incorrect to say that it does. There is no Nitrogen present in Bicarb and it cannot form Ammonia. Just posting to correct this innacuracy
  7. Good for him. He obviously took his Karate prowess and good looks from his mum. When does he fight abroad again?
  8. Evening Frannie
  9. Like yourself I always put Ivomec on the birds neck. This cures external parasites. I have been advised by an imminent vet that ingestion is the only way to control internal parasites i.e. worms.
  10. There is a wealth of information on Malathion on the internet. It is thought to have low human toxicity. There also seem to be suppliers available although most are based in China. I would suggest buying it may not be worth the bother and potential health risk.
  11. The old style Duramitex contained the insecticide Malathion. This was also used as a garden insecticide. As far as I am aware this substance is no longer available much the same as many really useful products.
  12. This sale is going well. Good luck with the remaining birds. For interest I wonder how many were sold on the site and how many via the advert in the pigeon paper. Which method of advertising do you prefer?

    Saintes sec.M

I certainly have some old timers. That's so I don't feel alone in the loft. I might just give it a bash

Struggling at 500 miles at the moment. I need to improve on that first.

There were fanciers timing in from Barcelona in the 60's 1050 miles into Ayrshire without the benefits of modern feeding techniques. We must be able to better that.

If I had the quality experienced birds I would certainly have a go

    J.J Horn

His UNC winners were Charter Flight and Charter Maid Marion. I believe he was an engineer and not a medical Dr. He lectured on the subject I think. He liked pigeons with small bodies and big wings. He picked his spot in his quest to win a Scottish National. There are obviously some who know more than me on the subject. I bought 6 from him in 1980. I never went back for more.
  20. I believe these are the pigeons of Lowic Brothers. A bit pricey for these liberations and most are dark chequers.

    correct weight

I believe Old Hand was an advocate of weighing the birds to see what was on form. Obviously the optimum weight will vary for each pigeon and we would only identify this by keeping records.
  22. Gareth is correct. He was a very consistent dedicated 500 miles flyer. I believe he features on a Keith Mott Video. Yes he passed a few years ago. I believe there was a pigeon called Moneymaker which was either a Red or Mealy cock. I seem to remember him winning or almost winning a National with a 9 year old pigeon.
  23. So how many new racepoints are there. Will I get a refund on my SHU fees due to the Lanarkshire sprint lofts forking out for all these new measurements. In Scotland we pay for measurements---not free like RPRA.
  24. It will supply the birds with Iodine. You can make your own very cheaply. 10 g of Potassium Iodide 5 g of Iodine Diluted to 100 ml with water. If it does not dissolve completely just add a pinch more water.
