  7. TT Had two years in the Viking its the best we stayed in. Kids put a stop to us going for two nights and Viking only take two night bookings. Hope you have a good time there, its very popular, and its out of the way, but entertainment is first class... Is Buddy still the MC, very funny guy. We staying at the Chequers Plaza this year Hope everyone enjoys it John

  9. Hi For individual recognition of bacteria it will take at least 48 hours, but it is quite easy to look at a swab or droppings and see if there is a problem by shear numbers alone, and the types. Identification of the bacteria, but to say you have a bacterial infection is quite plausible
  10. according to researchers at the University yes rats do carry salmonella but not the one that can infect pigeons as it is species specific for pigeons John
  11. Hi Guys Just to throw another side to this. If Vic had treated with baytril alone do you think his birds will look the same as they do now. Question How many strains of Salmonella are there? and How many can infect the pigeon? Can someone explain to me how an injection against a bacteria not virus works? Then ask yourself will an injection against a strain of Salmonella work against another strain? If the answer is no... Then why dont we vaccinate against every strain the pigeon can get? Im all for treating pigeons when they are sick, but with paratyphoid if you want to eradicate it there is only one outcome im afraid... If not I feel you will always have the same problems
  12. Alan The best way to know what yeast looks like is to grow it. Leave some bread out to go mouldy, then pick a tiny amount off the bread and mix it with saline on a slide and cover it with a cover slip and look at it. This will give you "the eye" for yeast when looking at your droppings. You have to be careful with pigeon droppings as any product high in yeast will yield a high yeast count but as someone has pointed out its the growing yeast that are the most important. Under a microscope growing yeast look like a tree without any leaves on it Hope this simple explanation helps John
  13. Hi Guys This type of work is very easy indeed. The hardest part is getting a good photo, if the photo is already supplied it would not take long to do. PM me if you need any more info John

  21. Every organisation should threaten to pull out and join another union or form one then they would have to listen. I cant help but feel there is two sides to this story and how many employers on here would put up with the same outburst from one of their employees. She in my eyes has made a mistake going public with this rightly or wrongly there are channels for this. She should be given her job back without doubt but in my place of work some punishment whether a warning or whatever should take place. John
