    wanted PLANS

Hi Does anyone have any plans for building a pigeon photography box, or even better have one for sale or disposal John
  2. The RPRA should tell every individual member were they are to fly then there would be non of this. Only if for some genuine reason a member integrity is questioned then they have a case otherwise this would stop club jumping new clubs feds etc being formed
  3. Hi Larry You are correct in your statement but as evidence has proved you cannot get everything with the torch. The best way is wet the area then dry it and then you have better idea on the areas you have missed. John
  4. Basically Alf its the first milk that comes from animals when they have just had their offspring it provides the young with all the nutrients and immunity needed in early life. Frank Tasker uses it I get it freeze it into cubes and place one in a drinker once a week John
  5. Hi guys sorry not been keeping on this thread. My guy at the Uni who is working on Chicken Salmonella said the best way is to use Virkon s as a disinfectant on th eloft and then burn it dry. Keep all utensils as clean as possible. He says there is no way of eradicating this as there are so many carriers, he says that it is best to cull any showing signs. Vaccination will only cover that variant of salmonella so what is the point of vaccinating when we dont know what strain we get. On another note has anyone or does anyone use colostrum or beastings??? probably best probiotic known to the animal kingdom
  6. Cheers If buying in UK what prices are the birds going. Lets say and grandson of Sumo or granddaughter from Avril Any ideas
  7. Hi All Could somebody tell me who they consider to have best lines of these in the UK. Would you recommend the strain and what are the best lines Thanks John
  8. Will many be attending the Jimmy Dickens sale or has it already been? John
  9. Just going back slightly I have to agree with Ben over the systematic treatment with drugs. I also believe this has contributed to the downfall in the constitution of the British racing Pigeon. If you were to do a blanket antibiotic resistance screen now on our birds you would not believe it and this coincided with the continental introductions or is this coincidence? and if so why do we treat so much now compared to days gone by?

    CATS

Unfortunately ive been too late the B*****d took a young cheq and killed it, the kids found it behind next doors shed, half eaten. It was a gift from Stuart Blut Tooner. Will have to stay with them at all times now John
  11. Hi Guys in mice it has been found by reducing immunoglobulin A (used in the immune system) salmonella will take hold and invade the system. by increasing the amount of IgA in the system you reduce the amount of salmonella in the gut. Therefore it seems to me that it is good practice to sterilise utensils especially the drinker with virkon s and then put as much pre and probiotics into your birsd as possible if you want to go down the "natural route" cannot say IgA has a role in poultry but it does in mice. Another thought on vaccination. A vaccine is virus specific ie will only attack what it had=s been vaccinated for. As two strains exist in pigeons should you not vaccinate with two vaccines???? John

    CATS

Apart from A dog what are the best cat deterrants that work Thanks John
  13. Strptococcus will also cause death inside the egg. But how many report a poor hatch and then still lose lots of young birds? John
  14. Hi Is salmonella and Paratyphoid the same. I dont think so salmonella is the causitive agent and paratyphoid is the outcome. Pigeons have two varieties of salmonella both specific to pigeons. Once birds become carriers then a problem arises the only way to eradicate it is to cull what shows signs and we know this will not happen. Rats and mice have been around our birds for years and there is now way on this earth you can exclude mice from a pigeon loft unless you have a totally built in loft which would not be condusive to keeping pigeons. Something has changed this year that is for sure not too sure if all the birds lost this year are "sick" birds. Just my thoughts. If you watch Keeping pigeons healthy by Armand Scheers he states paratyphoid is a "Winter" disease hence why they are treated for salmonella before breeding. Dont forget Salmonella is a bacteria and the key is good sanitation and the best for this has to be Virkon S as it will destroy salmonella
  15. Stayed at The Norbreck with our kids a few times got no complaints but not a place if you want to waited on at meal times. Our kids loved it John

  18. Sorry Grizzle Hen Im a bit confused if i sold something for £30 am i to send a donation of £30???? I may be a bit dumb but it reads like that to me.
  19. What do you require to give in the way of donation for selling???? John
  20. Thanks Jimmy It just states in the rules that to be a member of a club you must have your loft within its boundary, is this just for application and once you in you are in whether you have a loft or not John
  21. Does anyone know this? If you do not have a pigeon loft anymore at the long and lat registered at RPRA can you still be registered as a flying member just so you can hold office? I dont mean moved out of boundary I mean dismantling your loft and not having one altogether or Do you automatically become a non flying member John
  22. An update I let the birds out first this morning to get the fly out of them. because of time I then took them to the same spot as their first tosses to see if this improves. They did it in much better time but did not still come straight back... They still came as a batch John
  23. Thanks for all the advice John
  24. Now they been to 10 miles twice would you jump them to 20 or go again to 10 John
