dont see that there is a problem, the survey thread states that any questions can be aired in basics and that is what is being done, anything that might help prevention can only be good and there is no doubt a huge amount of effort has gone into this so far, i have two very good friends taking part in the test and wish them atb. The survey has quite a few high scoring factors in it and my questions are based on how is the test going to pinpoint which ones are effective and will test lofts be abstaining from all other high scoring factors ?, also will they be using any other medicines etc whilst in test mode and also will there be a sample of lofts not in the test so we can see if there is a big difference in results, you can rest assured that if the results prove positive i will be looking down that route as well for prevention ATB

Agree but there are so many ifs and buts and without test lofts not using permitherin we could end up with people thinking it is a cure, I for one don't believe it is insect borne but that's just me!!

Having read the latest thread regarding the use of Permetherin in a number of test lofts for the 2017 season i would suggest that to get a true reflection of whether the above mentioned drug has an effect on the number of lofts infected and the severity of said infection then surely there should be the same amount of lofts in the study that have not and will not use the drug in any of its forms during 2017, otherwise the results will be of little use. Without evidence from both user and non users the results will have nothing to compare with, problem being that non users will have to be willing to use no other preventatives or any of the other products that scored highly on the survey. Look forward to hearing any thoughts on this !! p.s. can i also ask ? have all test lofts agreed to bypass any other ybs treatments and other high scoring products for the sake of the study ? ATB

Of the 13 who used permit her in and had no ybs,did you establish that they all used it correctly?

Given the earlier posts regarding wikipedia do you know of any good fliers who use it?

Can I ask ian why you included permetherin in the questionnaire cos I had never heard of it and by the looks of it either had others

That was mine davie ,had 8 arrive and I went into loft to shout them in,could not understand why none were coming in and when I stepped out 6 were on the roof and the other two were in the air with the hen peregrine in hot pursuit of one of them,the peregrine was only a few feet behind the bird as they both went out of site,not sure if it escaped or not but the rest of my birds took a couple of minutes to even think of trapping ,poor little b*ggers flying 240 miles to be attacked just above the loft.
