  1. A fantastic team performance and congrats to Speedy Reid of Beith, Ayrshire 5 pigeons between 1842 and 1931 on the night, no doubt a few more before nightfall. We got a nice wee blue cock at 1933 happy with him hoping for top 10 of section F Baz
  2. Join the club lads - 10 1sts between the two doos inc 2 over the water :'(
  3. know how he feels sent two lost two one 5yo cock wi 7 x 1sts and umpteen first 5s inc twice 2nd fed 3rd fed etc and the other cock 3 x 1st a 2yo blue cock won Ypres twice and cheq cock won Leicester ... gutting on an easy day too
  4. a good few Appleby wi Ayrshire 118 miles ti us
  5. I think some of the posts regarding the sex of the new starter are missing a point. To my mind there is a huge niche out there to encourage women into the fancy - how many of you know women who keep their dogs or cats and are brilliant at looking after them - much better than some of the lads I know that's for sure. Just think if every club in the lad could attract just two female members - how many new fanciers would that be? So let's not differentiate and complain that you wouldn't get the help if you were a man (if not why not!?) the fact is a new starter has asked for and is receiving help - that has to be a good thing, right?
  6. 19th april - nope :/

    Old Birds

Oldest we have is a 2000 cock - we also have a 2001 cock who looks like a yearling and handles like one must have terrific genetics!
  11. Cheers mate - It will be!
  12. They actually had a gamble on their doos then - todays equivalent would be more like £2 £3 £5 £10 £20 £30 £50 pooling two doos through the card would just about buy yo a computer game for the wean. But ask fanciers for thruppence on birdage and they're chucking toys everywhere mate. In that sense we're light years behind the English and continentals except for at big birdage National races where you can still win a bit more than a weeks wages if you happen to win it and bet on it Baz Great to see some very famous names on the original post tho
  13. Beautiful in North Yorkshire today
  14. I'll let you know when I come back in November lads - good position to be in, create a war then jump ship and earn millions as a peace envoy.... Should be rotting in jail
  15. Why would we want to continue racing from the channel with 80% of the convoy from the South and East sections thereby even having an amal result would be skewed because of drag? No much use having a westerly programme and then sending with the SNFC and your birds suddenly coming out the east? Not really worth having an amal for one or two races per season? It should be looking at the west of Scotland eventually racing a programme of races - the biggest fed in Scotland don't even have the National races on their programme ... Rooster, isn't the NW fed invited to the amal?
  16. Really not sure why anyone would want to not upset the SNFC ? Lanarkshire fed don't go with them and the send from Ayrshire (11000 rings distributed last year) is paltry imo The Amal should be from Stafford ONWARDS including the channel send. If fanciers want to go with SNFC fair enough but the geography of Scotland doesn't lend itself to "fair" national racing - fact The West organisations should be aiming for their own semi-national organisation imo. It is simply a matter of establishing if we can get the numbers in terms of send to justify a full Amal programme within the next couple of seasons. Instead of a paltry send if we can get a racing line with a significant convoy then west lofts will be able to send teams to these races instead of the paltry send which seems to be the norm at the moment... that's the theory anyway??
  17. Think tbf the Midland Fed President is stuck between a rock and a hard place on this one. His position with the SNFC would be jeopardised if he supported what would be considered a "breakaway" organisation. My opinion is that even over and above the SNRPC that a WoS amal would be more of a semi-national organisation than that small club JMO Baz
  18. Quite a few sires in horse racing have been either poor race horses with top pedigrees or unraced. The most famous ones have been of course champion or prodigious racehorses but of course statistics would be tempered by the fact that there are many more offspring taken from successful horses than poor ones so increasing the chances of winners coming from them As a human parallel I have two sons and none of them become very bright but my twin brother has twelve sons and four of them become MENSA members - he is then a better sire than me .... or is he?
  19. You guys did a fantastic job, well in! Baz
  20. No club that sacks managers 5 games in should have success. They knew the man's style when they appointed him?
  21. Just a few weeks til pairing up Ricky. You will probably shift your focus because there isn't much left to prove at fed level for you - rightly so you are a progressive loft and will make a success of it whatever you decide to go for - PS I did try to buy your wee doo yesterday but the Mrs eyes borng in the back of my heed I had to let Wullie take her hame- worth that price any day of the week !! I'm adding your name to the list Derek (lofts setting the pace in the west) Brilliant
  22. Not bad - 9 firsts in the club 16 lofts and 3 firsts in the fed (190 lofts ish) but behind in the races we should have been closer in - we have a 50/50 split sprint/mid dist and mid/long dist blood so performed well up to 300 mile but underperformed in the longer ones (albeit winning the club and making fed result in them) Will have 5 fed trophies to collect incl YB avg and longest 2 YB races avg so from that point of view can hardly complain. Have to have an honest chat with partners if we are going to have so many distance pigeons then sends of 3,4 & 3 to the longer races when we could easily send 20 to every other race is going to be either rectified or good distance lines will be removed from the loft Will be looking to the likes of Morris boys, Derek McKinlay and Ricky Young as three of the best lofts in Scotland in recent times - these are the benchmark for fanciers in the West imo Bright spot: seeing 956 come early 2nd day from Ypres, Dark spot: he wasn't anywhere near as close as we though he'd be and despit being his 7th 1st prize and being 7th fed we must do more to justify this good pigeon next season and others like him
  23. Well done lads , hope you had a very good day
  24. Would love to go there but got to support our own fed - both top sales though if Walters doesn't make 300 quid them its under priced. Is there a commission on the Rankin doo?
