  1. Gareth As I said it was probably the right decision as it was not a good morning and I did hesitate myself before starting to basket them, at the end of the day you could have done me a favour as the weather did not improve and in fact got worse as the day wore on. I know it can be difficult to make a decision based on the forecast which is what I done when I decided to send but the day was turned out far worse than the forecast I looked at last night, anyway I know that you have also a life to lead out with pigeons so no hard feelings.
  2. Probably the right decision to cancel as it is not a great morning, however to call off at 07:40 is too late as some guys have been up basketing doos from 06:00' me included and did not know toss had been cancelled until I had 100+ doos at the club hut in Blantyre
  3. Hey Del Still watching this space , Looks like nobody wants to fill us in on what was discussed or agreed, either that or they don't know or it's a secret !!!
  4. Hope so, we will wait and see, watch this space !!!
  5. Del If you read the article in the BHW then it looks like some decisions have already been made regards liberations where any convoyed organisation can chose whether they are liberated separately or with the convoying organisation. I am not in favour of joint liberation with another organisation if all of the birds are not all heading in the same general direction and I am also against separate liberation of birds out of the same / single transporter.
  6. Jimmy Sorry , you're probably going to tell me he was born in Burnbank but lived in Hillhouse??, no matter, he was a great wee fighter.
  7. So he is from Hillhouse then not Burnbank :emoticon-0136-giggle:
  8. I note an article / advertisement in the BHW dated March 28th where the SNFC are inviting all UK organisations to compete in this planned commemorative race on July 5th, not withstanding that the UNC and NEHU will not be their until July 19th the article states , joint convoying facilities are offered to all racing pigeon clubs and organisations by the above titled clubs on the above stated dates, whilst I don't have any real issues with this it then goes on to state that, [ convoyed pigeons can be liberated along with the convoying organisation or at a separate time from them on the day of liberation, WHICHEVER IS PREFERRED] As per previous posts on this thread and assuming that any non Scottish organisation may wish to convoy with the SNFC on July 5th, then my view on this is that a decision has been taken on how the members of the SNFC pigeons are to treated where preference will be given to that organisation on how their birds will be liberated which may not be in the best interests of the SNFC convoy and which the members at large May not agree with , JMO I would also be interested to know if any formal discussions took place with the SNRPC regards a single race / joint convoying to Ypres and Ancenis, perhaps one of the committee members on here could advise on the above. Again my comments above are as a pigeon fancier and are made with all due respect to people of Ypres and the British servicemen and women who sacrificed their lives during WW1

    Snfc

IB thanks for the info, I couldn't make the AGM this year due to work commitments so wasn't aware the date of the race had been changed, can you tell on what date the race will now be flown ??, this could also mean that my own Fed, Lanarkshire, will not be able to convoy to this race with the SNFC, as per my previous posts on this subject I also hope the SNRPC are invited to the party. Hey Del, pleased to hear you are back on the national committee
  15. Rooster, another great read, keep them coming

    Snfc

Stuart, I know on a previous thread IB posted up various options with regards liberations which I thought would be put to the members, I don't like the sound of this if it was not discussed at the AGM and just hope we are not getting boxed into a single mass liberation which I am against, or maybe no other organisations have expressed an interest and it's dead in the water ?? Time will tell

    Dol

Remember him being in the old Blantyre club ( Glasgow Fed ) when I first joined, he died fairly soon after this, remember Andy Shearer getting a mealy hen at the time he called the Kaye hen which bred a lot of winners for him. The only way I'm older than you would be if you take the school years off your current age just now

John As a boy in the mid / late sixties I was on a youth club summer camp and the hostel where we were staying was straight across the road from Dora,s cafe / ice cream shop in Arbroath, at the time I had no idea how famous the name Dora was in the sport but had noticed the birds exercising during the day and when in the shop asked his son ( I think ) who belonged to the pigeons. I was told to chap the back gate the next day if I wanted to see the birds which I duly did , at the time his father Mr Dora would have been a fair age but took the time to show me around the lofts and birds, I don't know if I seen the famous Nat winner Fifer but have never forgot this visit as a boy
  22. Well done Rooster, what an excellent read on a first class distance fancier, full common sense and little pearls of wisdom, best article I've read for some time.
