  1. I think you've only got to look at the number of birds entered in the race compared to the number sent to the final race to answer many questions! Phil
  2. Lennut, i suspect the flights are damaged due to the way they are housed. They appear to spend a lot of time in flights and crowded conditions. The problem with to many birds in aviarys is that they can damage flights on the wire. I would asume also that these birds are not given as much attention as our own would be so are probably flighty when anybody is arround where as our own birds would just stay sat on the perches! Phil
  3. They cram as many in as they can for money and its survival of the fitest, no regards for the birds welfare. They are sent on trainers and race, fit or not, these lofts need more regulation! Phil
  4. lol
  5. if the 1st bird was in our loft it would be stopped due to the moult but as its there it will have to be raced while on last ccouple of flights! Phil

  7. Better off linking up with Roger as you will find most of birds you pick up in a limited area will want to be transported out of the area which you may not be prepared to or may not be economical to do! Phil
  8. exactly, but some people seem to focused on colours and not how are they going to perform. Phil

  10. prob is a lot of people are now just breeding them for the colour instead of looking for something to perform. Phil

  15. lucky you saw them go down otherwise they would have never been seen again and you'd be wondering what happened to them! Phil

  18. If you want it back either send for it collect it as it's not his to keep! If the RPRA have messed up with the details I would ask Peter to pay the carriage! Phil
  19. Only going on what a vet told me!
  20. Is there not a rule or regulation that states birds must be transported in a suitable racked vehicle? A van certainly isn't racked or suitable! Nothing wrong with using a van to take birds from clubs to transporter but shouldn't be used to transport to race point. Phil

good news Jimmy, if they are happy in there new home they will stay just don't push them until you know they are safe! Phil
  22. True, but its often the aftercare that is more important than the treatment as the antibiotics strip imunity which needs to be re-established otherwise they are subject to conracting other infections etc Phil
  23. Adenovirus, isn't a virus hense the reason they prescribe antibiotics. Phil
  24. As most of us know IB, when it comes to most vets and pigeons its a waste of both time and money. The guy involved did send droppings and swabs to be tested which came back as Adenovirus and treat with Baytril. After a week of Baytril he was still losing the same amount of birds and it was clearly having no effect. He was then advised by a Nigel Cowood to use a different antibiotic which again had no effect. Once he stopped the antibiotics and started boosting the imune system backed up with vitamins they started to turn the corner and he has now been ok with no more losses for a couple of weeks. The problem is labs don't give the swabs/virus time to develop mainly because fanciers using them are desperate for an instant answer instead of saying the result won't be ready for 7-10days they guess at the answer! Phil
  25. No! poor ventilation! If the van is full how are the birds watered without taking all the baskets out? How long are the birds stuck inside the van for, in the dark if its raining at race point? What facilities does the driver and convoyer have, i.e, sleeping etc? Phil
