As IB says its down to honesty, verification is checking ring number, wing mark etc and liberating the bird at its home loft and watching it re-enter the loft. But there is nothing to say the bird hasn't been collected from another location 100miles away over night etc. How many birds have 2 homes? I have heard of many birds stopping of at regular lofts enroute for a rest and then heading for home. If a bird was doing this regularly the owner could actualy wait at the stop off point for the bird, clock it and drive home with the bird which could then be verified at the home end! Makes you think! Phil

the owner could have driven 1/2 way, met you and clocked the bird in there and then! If the bird had been verified the following morning it would have been back in its own loft so I don't see your point Vic! I have verified birds for the National and CSCFC but could only verify where the birds were at the time of my visits, who knows where they've been for the previous 24hrs or so. Phil

Peter, the aluminium show/widowhood boxes as pictured are ok for taking the birds to the club to keep widowhood cocks quiet but not a lot of use for anything else. Phil

i have seen this in old birds getting old but only ever in 1 eye. They hve been able to adapt and live a normal life but a totaly blind bird has no chance. It may be worth contacting an avian vet and asking if it could have been caused by an infection. Phil

get some pot eggs and swop them with the real ones next round!

I wouldn't worry to much about him coming out of the bowl. If there were other birds in your loft then they could attack it but you havn't got that problem. What you will prob find is that the hen will lay again in the bowl in a few days, ready for the next population explosion! Phil

if there is no reaction in either eye and the pupils appear to have dispersed then he is blind and the kindest thing to do is despatch him as he won't be able to feed etc, let alone find his way around the loft. Phil

Rab, let them excercise before training then when they are taken in the basket they will just want to home for food. Once you have got them 20+ miles down the road you won't need to excercise them 1st. Phil
