    stray birds

A bird that is exhausted and run down will take approx 10 days to regain condition, so if a bird is going to be tossed nearer home give it time to recover first. There is no point chucking it up the next day as it will just drop into the nearest loft it finds! Phil

    stray birds

Interesting nobody has said isolate it, then report it etc etc, never know what a stray may be carrying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. What I will add is that everybody should check the birds when they arrive as when we received 4 boxes of youngbirds that had been involved in an accident we didn't open what was left of the boxes to check on condition. Amtrak can use this as a get out clause even if you sign as unchecked! Phil
  4. The birds were collected at 3pm and it was I brand new box I put the birds into. After going to the trouble of breeding these for Damian I was gutted when I heard about it. I reported it to Amtrak but you need to get hold of the right person (Nicki Long [nicki.long@amtrak.co.uk]) who is suposed to be the designated manager responsible for pigeon service. I always copy in Peter Bryant as this is becoming a regular occurance! How are the others Damian? Phil
  5. If somebody is having a go then say! You did state on you original add the cock had bred 8 winners and i'm sure some people may ask further quastions but whats wrong with that? Phil
  6. will join M5 at M50 then M6
  7. We will be going from South Wales to Alvie, near Ben Nevis next wednesday 18th returning the following Sunday if anybody has any strays to return either way. Phil
  8. what you need to do is try and feed it into a shed or garage etc andthen catch it. Once you've caught it give Rose a ring and she'll pick it up from you and reunite it with its owner. Phil
  9. good info Paulo, to many people don't basket train which causes the yb's extra stress when they are basketed the first time for training etc! I used to wean my youngbirds to a basket for a week where they learnt to feed and water in the basket before going into the loft and they were never afraid of the basket. Phil
  10. Always give a light feed in the morning. Never feed youngbirds to late in the day as they will either bring the food up in the basket or may hold some food and not want to trap if the birds are up early. Phil

Plenty of room at the one loft site to look after them as they prob wouldn't get permission to put a loft at the Reddings and who will look after the birds when the offices are closed? Phil
  16. I'm sure they are 100% better than Louella as well!

At one point I was getting 2 or 3 calls a week and had to get it stopped because at that point I was living where I couldn't have birds as no room for a loft but because I was sec the RPRA just kept giving my number out for about a 50mile radius! They never bothered to ask if I minded! You would also be suprised what little information the RPRA gain before passing on numbers, endless callers were asked if they'd caught the bird to which the answer was normaly "its on the roof"!
  18. Like Ant said, you had the main of the wind advantage last year so don't be gready! Phil
  19. same here, 4 last week went to Damian and last 5 going to Rab (Cumbernauld) next week, all other eggs were thrown out. Phil

I understood the RPRA will arrange collection from non fanciers if birds not claimed in 48hrs and then the fancier concerned would have 2 Amtraks to pay, 1 to HQ then 1 for return to them! Serves them right! Phil

over the years we have picked up a couple of our own birds from sancturys and it does make you feel ashamed when you see the other racers there that have not been claimed or are not wanted.

If any of you have ever had dealings with bird sanctury's that help birds of all kind, pigeon fanciers are there pet hate as so many fanciers just don't want them back especialy if they have been injured! Phil

Even local fanciers take birds to him to save them the hassle of reporting and because they are reported by a stray catcher, suposid non fancier members are obliged to pay his fees!
