    stray centre

nutverlal, is this not the same guy that gets all the strays, reports them, charges at least £5 plus a daily charge for the days he has it and Amtrak cost before he will release the bird? Realy doing only himself a favour and earning from it!
  2. Good luck with them and you are welcome. Phil
  3. Always make a reboot disc and run regular backups so you don't lose everything. Phil
  4. Have a good one all of you!
  5. is it april 1st?

When webmaster comes on maybe there could be a new section on here with people posting there movement i.e, i'm going to Oxford from South Wales tonight via Swindon, then Oxford to Silverstone tomorrow then back to Oxford Returning to South Wales Sunday pm via Aylesbury. This way if we post in time and members have any birds enroute we could arrange movement! What are the thoughts on that and is it possible to set up a section on the site? Phil

    stray centre

It is an excellent idea but the RPRA should fund a stray station in all regions and not expect the fanciers to do it out of the goodness of there hearts and unfortunatly transporters are no longer able or allowed to carry strays due to DEFRA. The driver must be able to produce a vaccination certificate if requested which he would not have for a stray. Phil ps Amtrak have struck again, sent 4 young birds gifted to Damian yesterday which arrived with him today in a very battered box with one of the youngbirds dead, oh what a wonderful service!
  8. how many birds are you missing Jimmy? Phil
  9. Have you checked the eggs David to see if they are fertile? Phil
  10. get somebody to look at them as there maybe something obvious, also ask them to have a look at your loft incase there again could be something basic that isn't right. Phil

    sputnik trap wanted!!

    yb's have been collected
  12. I would email RPRA for the GB ring and the NEHU for the original registered keepers. PHil
  13. wrap your forfingure and thumb around the egg and hold it up to a light bulb, at 15 days you won't see through it if its fertile, if you can see the brightness of the light through the egg then its not fertile. Phil
  14. if you want to see if they are fertile hold them up to a light at 7 days and you will see the embyo developing. phil
  15. Keep the birds in for a couple of days and then try letting them out at different times of the day for excercise and then get them back in. If you leave the birds out they will attrackt the hawks and if you let the birds out at the same time each day the hawks know where to get a regular feed. Phil
  16. Well done, its suprising how the bug bites! If you know anybody or can find anybody local to you it would be a good idea to get to know them and shadow them to learn about racing and careing for the birds. This would give you time and ideas on your own loft design ready to start. Phil
  17. I would also recomend Chris at Vallance lofts!
  18. ~Welcome Peter and good luck in your new venture! What made you want to keep pigeons? Phil

    ~ Peregrine Falcons ~

they will attack at some point wether its the first or last batch. Firstly, don't take them to the same place again, take them further so they get a run at the area and secondly the next toss take 2 batches, let one go in the morning and the other go in the afternoon. We have tried all times of day, they start coming without problem and then bang they come back split up and in pieces. It is a great idea for clubs to get eagle owls but if they are released the RSPB will shoot them and if they are just flown as captive birds near nesting sites who is going to train and look after the owl? Phil
  20. Update on Avian Influenza in Oxfordshire: H7 strain confirmed as Highly Pathogenic Following further laboratory results, the Chief Veterinary Officer has confirmed that the strain of H7 Avian Influenza present in laying hens at the farm in Banbury is highly pathogenic. Further laboratory tests are in progress to identify the N type and possible relationships with previously identified viruses. A detailed epidemiological investigation to better understand the origin and development of the disease is also underway. The 3km inner and 10km outer Temporary Control Zone was established on 3 June with measures appropriate to a highly pathogenic strain. These measures remain in place and existing restrictions continue to apply. These restrictions include the housing or otherwise isolation from contact with wild birds in the inner 3km zone. All bird gatherings in the Temporary Control Zone are banned. Other movements of birds and some products are also banned in the whole of the Temporary Control Zone. Defra is urgently considering whether any wider measures may be needed. Please see the Defra website for detailed information on the restrictions. Peter Bryant writes: I will be monitoring the situation with regards to the red typeface and will advise through e mail and website as soon as I have any further news Regards

    Chanel racing

Bird flu, paramyxo, etc etc are here to stay, we should just enjoy what ever racing we get while we can! The pigeon racing fraturnity is to small to fight DEFRA etc with any success and if they were to beat DEFRA they'd have to then fight the EU directives! As for cost, channel races should be £10 per bird especialy the distance races to stop people sending last chancers because they don't have the guts to do the decent thing! Phil
