  1. feels like that now , here ;D frrrreezing
  2. in my opinion a light carboheydrate mix second half of the week , with depurative mixed with yeast powder and lemon juice [to soak the yeast in,,and to supply vit c ] at the begginning of the week ,, mainly for sprint only
  3. well done,, sounds a great generous offer
  4. good luck michael,, sorry to hear of your sale, maybe ,for your healths sake for the better , sad as it is
  5. plenty maples , protein, i,e baby milk in water, ie sma white [more satisfying for the hungrier baby ;D ;D ;D well it says that on the tin ;D] plenty fresh grit minerals pickstones ,infact anything they want , they know whats best themselves ,,, the adults will leave the maize when yb,s are growing fast! "maples are usually the first grains a yb will pick up when weaned"
  6. yes josh,,there is a big difference, depurative contains mostly barley. a little wheat ,dari, linseed [getting lesser and lesser now looking at my mix ] this is normaly used as a so-called light mix , easily digested after a race or to keep their weight to a good racing weight, but a conditioner [red band is one make ] normally contains many heating seed type grains such as hemp etc , which by feeding too much can bring on a kinda false condition, but great used as a tit-bit or whilst trapping them,, as they do love this mix
  7. when racing,, brand of feeding would not come into it,, type of feeding yes,, good sound clean corn , and fed to suit the type of racing [i,e distance differing from sprint]
  8. i beleive a corn with high carboheydrates for sprint birds,, but with distance birds [worked hard ]a higher protein diet followed by a high carboheydrate diet nearer the distance race
  9. i dont beleive in starving pigeons at any time, but a balanced diet is somewhat different i,e you cant overfeed w/hood cocks , but you can balance their diet, feeding lightly [depurative with yeast] at the begginning of the week[am and pm] then they will relish carboheydrates and proteins towards the race day [again this is balanced i,e distance etc ]
  10. welcome chris h hope you enjoy the forum,,look forward to your posts

    race

maybe just a bit of interest but s w bishop also bought the war pigeon rhur express,, for a world record amount then,, £420,,,,, how times have changed
  15. yes,, i would agree with that also roland
  16. i would agree ib, that what the bird eats can determine the colour to a certain extent ,, but as long as you know what your feeding , you would expect to see the droppings accordingly,,[ under normal circumstances ], but when green in the droppings [after normal feeding] would indicate to me , that not all was right, so maybe the one part i would disagree on,,,is that you can tell a lot from the droppings i dont know if ive explained myself very well here
  17. must go for red chaq hen on this one nutritional value, is more than just the colour of their droppings ,,,,,, if you eat plenty beetroot , you might have a fright when going to the toilet ;D,, same as when you feed hormoform , the droppings will be a red colour , if i had green droppings ;D ;D i would be in hospital ;D ;D,, but the gist being different grains will produce slightly different colouring , some grains of any year can hold a different moisture content , of the same grains another year, then theres grains that will contain more fibre,,,,,feeding on ,say maples will produce larger droppings than say,, feeding barley,, so different feeding can produce slightly different colour and size of droppings, but can see sammy,s point , during the racing season we would plainly like to see ,good firm droppings with a white" walls icecream" topping ;D
  18. a very great gesture , i sincerely hope the bird does well , i feel that the good in pigeon fanciers shines out in cases like this one, and in fact enhances pigeon fanciers images
  19. very true,,,but must be said that you certainly do your bit,, with the liberations for the cancer funds,, and the help you put into the pigeon museum ,,all this makes non-fanciers become interested
