  3. another brilliant article , very good indeed all makes for good publicity , unfortunately there are some fanciers who through jealousy, bitterness, ignorance and sheer selfishness do not help in the upgrading in this wonderfull hobby [and the pity is some of these so called fanciers dont realize this] in my opinion we should all be pulling from the same rope in an effort promote this wonderfull hobby
  4. yes , very good ,, any reports that show pigeons in the right light , can only be good . i have allways wished they would do a programme on the war pigeons ,leading on to modern day racing pigeons , charities etc,, just to make the public more aware , and to be honest some of the public wouldnt be there if it werent for these gallant birds , who saved so many lives
  5. i think this is more to the point,, the fret marks are a mark that appears on the growing feather at the time it bursts through , the cause is stress ,, whatever the stress may be
  6. im just like you,, give my money to the sick animals.....only i dont know their sick when i back them ;D ;D ;D [hope it doesnt snow ;D]

  9. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D i remember when i worked as an aerial rigger, doing an erection [instalation ;D] at hopetoun house, [well the game keepers cottage ;D] very cold this particular winter, gamekeepers wife gave me a lovely hot bowl of soup, which i enjoyed immensly ,as thanked her , she told me it was pigeon soup [wood pigeon] dont think i could have ate it had i known, but it ws actualy lovely [only prob was, i started moulting the next day ;D ;D ;D]

  16. i lost" max" my african grey, just a short time ago, after having him for about 30 years, [hewas reckoned to be roughly 60 years old [nearly as old as you ted ;D]" max " plucked his feathers out each winter, but in summer was given free flight outside, after making various enquiries about this , was told it was "vice" learned when young ,probably caused by boredom ,, however this never seemed to bother him ,, and like yours came out with a fewchoice "words ;D" sometimes to my great embarrassment ;D i miss the old so an so ,he was such a character
  17. a big thanks to all the members who so kindly pm,d me during my stay in hospital, i must say i was pleasantly surprised and really gratefull i have ongoing spinal probs hopefully rectified soon, thanks a million for the lovely pm,s,,,jimmy
  18. totaly agree, , but on hours on the wing , rather than distance , but in doing 550 miles/700 miles flying 16 hours in a day takes a special kind of pigeon ,not many will do this , most of these winners are bred from these very same type,, and these birds are hard to come by
  19. sorry wiley ;D ;D meant to put 13 that,, rhymed with dream [got my three in ones mixed up ;D]
  20. i know this can make sense,,,,, but if i remember right, last year we agreed that if i got a trophie [which i did ] this was keeping the prizemoney in all , to pay out [i was last ;D ;D ;D]but it did seem to go well enough, and every one seemed happy,[especially , bewted ;D ;D ;D], would seem to me a little unfair to lower the prize money this year, compared to last year , maybe worth thinking about jason is doing all the work in feeding, cleaning and training etc ,maybe asking for a little help in the feeding would help the guy out,, only my thoughts
  21. maybe see a few on the photo section on the forum
  22. ;D they never cease to amaze you,, a freind of mine retired two old stock [x racers] birds,,, cocks, after not filling their eggs for nearly two years , these were to be kept till the end of their days in an aviary as they were real champs,,,,,one summer , he put a hen in just to keep them company,, lo and b hold the hen laid two fertile eggs ,,,,,,but ;D who was the father ;D true if i remember right they were 16 years of age
  23. any newcomer would be far better having patience , then getting the best of latebreds [i,e direct from winners] , for next to nowt itzaholdover ;D ;D ;D like it ;D ;D ;D t,
