  1. I FULLY UNDERSSTAND YOU BRUNO ,IN WHAT YOUR SAYING, AND I REMEMBER SAYING THAT, ABOUT SENDING THEM WITH THEIR JACKETS ON, BUT THESE DARKNESS YBS ARE , JUST THE SAME AS THE"NATURAL YBS"BRED IN DEC .ONLY THEIR SHIFTED FORWARD A COUPLE OF MONTHS, AND PUT ON ARTIFICIAL DARKNESS, BOTH THESE BIRDS WILL ONLY HAVE A BODY MOULT BUT CAST NO FLIGHTS, SO THEY ARE GOING TO THE RACES WITH LESS STRESS [bODY MOULT]AND BOTH THESE BIRDS, THE STREET PIGEON AND THE ARTIFICIAL DARKENED PIGEON, WILL STILL HAVE A SECOND BODY MOULT AFTER THE RACING , WHEN THEY HAVE PERFECT PEACE TO MOULT WITHOUT ANY STRESS, IT DOESNT AUTOMATICLY SAY YOUR GOING TO WIN , AS THEY STILL HAVE TO BE PERFECT SPECIMENS AND TRAINED AND MANAGED WELL. BUT I DO APPRECIATE THAT IF YOUR RACING NATURAL YBS, AT LEAST YOUR GIVING THEM A BREAK AS THEY MOULT,IF YOU READ ON ONE OF MY PREVIOUS POSTS I WAS DOUBTFULL AT FIRST, BUT THAT WAS ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO, WHEN I TRIED BOTH SYSTEMS, AND AS OLD BIRDS FOUND IT MADE NO DIFFERANCE WHATSOEVER , WHETHER THEY HAD BEEN ON DARKNESS OR NATURAL, SO YOU CAN BREED IN FEB, AND SAVE 2 MONTHS GRUB [TIGHT SCOT] :) JIMMY
  2. I USED TO FEED BOTH ON THE FLOOR AND IN THE BOXES. I FELT IF THERE WAS A HOLDOVER THE BIRDS WOULD EAT MORE READILY IN THE BASKET, ASO FED IN BOXES MORE PROTEIN FOR DISTANCE BIRDS, ALSO A PINCH OF RED BAND, TO GET THEM WELL USED TO MY HAND GOING IN THE BOX [WHICH THEY GRATEFULLY JUST ABOUT TOOK OFF] :)
  3. youll get good old birds at ten pounds each, if you look at birds for sale, youll get a dozen all well bred, for a hundred pounds, they would soon breed you a team of ybs from that.
  4. hope mr westy has picked up a bit
  5. saffyrichtwhit yersayinrab ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
  6. i cant see any point in it , with obs, the reason for darkenning ybs is to make the ybs think its winter, therefor like latebreds theyll have a full body moult and have a full wing [some latebreds will cast some flights depending when their bred] but with old birds they usually start their body moult when they have cast about their 4 or 5 th flight. the racing will be well finished by then. youll find the obs will cast there first flight after heve sat more than 12 days on there second round of eggs, thats why the widowhood boys, seperate them after theve been sitting 8 to 10 days , theyll hold there flights a long time and keep in condition a long time, only my opinion
  7. i think weve missed out one of the most impotant things, is basket training, many many times, when they are very young,it takes the fear out of them , gives them confidence, they drink, eat no bother, and go through less stress when you start tossing them used to start about 5 miles then 10 then 15 then repeat the 15 toss everyday if poss, , after this a few times their off before you can get the basket tied up. at this stage i would give them a couple of 50 mile shots, then train 10 miles in differant directions
  8. mick just wants ten pound each for these birds fifty pounds for clock just give him a phone ,,0131 654 1329 unfortunately he has a bad illness, allthough hes ok at the moment
  9. i understand the moving of birds can produce loose droppings, but i think vijsl was saying his whole team of ybs had wattery droppings after he had put the 4 latebreds in, thats why i advised a vet [could be many things, some not so serious but at the same time could be serious ] would be safer to find out [ had the birds ,been vaccinated?]
  10. keep mr nasty locked in his box untill the other cock regains his confidence, hes obviosly had the stuffing knocked out of him, i would even keep mr nasty locked in till his ybs hatch, he may think twice when hes feeding big ybs him self. its very common for yearlings to try and take two boxes, but they sort themself out eventually
  11. the old adage absence makes the heart grow fonder, so may be a wee separation period then try again, then again , they might be tredding when your not seeing them, good luck anyway
  12. cannot get my head round this one, what are things comming to, i should have thought that any drugs would have worn off by the time they are liberated off course if your winning youll be giving them drugs??
  13. the birds will tell you by their actions when they are super fit, its not really hard to see, if you really know your own birds well ,,,its a pleasure to watch.
  14. people may or may not agree on many things for pigeons, but the old saying must be right , NEVER CHANGE A WINNING SYSTEM good luck to all in the comming season.
  15. ihope rachel is getting over that bad period, what that wee girl has endured is so sad, but at the sametime truly amazing, may the man above keep looking after her
  16. must admit i was doubtfull years ago, but then tried both systems, the darkness ones hammered the others, but the others were stopped after a few races, as yearlings and older birds they were all together, and found out it made no differance whatsoever, both were comming just as well
  17. where did you get that photo of me, fred ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

hi marvin, had to smile at the patience of a gnat, but im sure youll find most pigeon men like that[even if they dont admit it] i really think if you could manage your original plan you would be better off in the end[ BUT thats easier said than done] best of luck to you marvin, youll get there in the end, and after all it can be fun trying [ or very trying] :) good luck :)

  21. put an aviary or cage on the front of the loft so she can see the suroundings ,then when shes sitting , she should be ok ,,,good luck
  22. agree with snowy but would tend to get the birds tsted for paramyxo, or salmonella. off course it could be something else, but i would consult a vet
  23. bruno , if you look under" ivomec for pigeons "on the web, youll find some interesting information,,,also my vet will prescribe it for me for my pigeons.not that i use it much, but apart from the ivomec, theres some intersting reading, jimmy
  24. is ben still there?????
  25. i uesd to send to the first yb race, but found there were many untrained birds and birds not in tip top condition, and ybs far to young, i think the first big liberation can be abit of a mix up, after this lib, they seem to settle a bit, only my opinion
