  12. i used to find that the widowhood cocks ate less at this time of the year and found that when i increased the peanuts they ate these, and drunk more [getting in to the distance now] im not sure about putting anything in the water on friday is a good thing as they may drink less, would be interested in other opinions
  13. i would agree with shadow only i would do a 15 miler just to be carefull then 20 but once you start your better keeping them going, as they will stop ranging

  15. another act of instinct is a pigeon never forgets,,they have a memory second to none i have had many aspects of this" memory"one of them a bird comming home after 6 years [never timed it in ;D ;D ;D]but have heard of them comming home a lot later than that
  16. i would say pigeons are creatures of habit, i would flag them at the beggining of the season [with no training] with the loft doors closed, for say 15 mins then open the door and let them land, i would extend this to 45 mins with the door closed, once they "cottoned on"they would fly as long as the doors were closed, with just a reminder now and again [ widowhood cocks]they needed very little training, as they would have been trained plenty as ybs, i would rather see them do 45 mins to an hour freely, than force them down the road ,and put them through stress by basketing , travelling an hour, then them flying home in an hour, this would take approx 3 hours, when they could be in the loft resting after 1 hour with no stress
  17. very interesting article,,,pigeons are naturally gregarious, and fly more confident in a batch, but if their trained at an early stage to have confidence flying solo, will definately benefit them even later in life, but i would only do this after a little experience, this would take time but would be worth it. the only thing i would say is ,if you are singling them up, make sure there is enough space between them, as they will take longer to clear, to begin with, if you put them up before the first one has cleared, they will then get in to the habit of flying round waiting on the next one going up, only my opinion
  18. very interesting article indeed, it just goes to show how things can twist and turn
