  1. theres a good photo of birds skin colour on jack barkels post, the best pictures ive seen,,,,,,but i would tend to give them some barley to begin with, and lessen it as the races got further, i maybe wouldnt jump the gun at the respiratory bit, as they are flying an hour, and in this warm weather thats pretty good [ but i would make sure they werent over crowded in the loft] anyway hope all goes well for you
  2. lewis mitchel of inverkeithing has this bird in his loft, he tried to report it by phone with no success, but if the owner phones 01383 417 419, lewis will explain, the bird again is gb o6 x 59661

  10. i used to love watching the widowhood cocks ,at 6 am hit the skies ,way up like dots and off, just like ybs , used to clean all lofts clean water then sit back with cuppa , then maybe seeing them still high, flying over the loft in a differant direction, and away again , no training, birds come in to form themselves theyll tell you, training cocks early in the season, might win you first race but its a long season and these birds" burn out quick"

  15. had the same problem p.h. reported 3 birds one owner couldnt have been more nicer and appreciative, no word for other two,,,,just shows you how people are differant however they were liberated at the place they belonged to , thanks to j, lamb
  16. theres many ,but i allways admired robert cormack of winchburgh, lost count of the number of years he was on the gold cup result
  17. IF YOUVE STILL 6 WEEKS TO THE FIRST YB RACE, THERES STILL TIME FOR THEM TO RANGE BUT IF THEIR FLYING 40 MINS , THEIR DOING NOT BAD IF I WERE YOU I WOULD WAIT ANOTHER COUPLE OF WEEKS, THEN WHEN YOU START , TRAIN THEM EVERY DAY IF POSS, GOOD LUCK
  18. THEN THERE WAS EDDIE NEWCOMES,,,,RED ROCK SCORED IN EVERY NATIONAL IN SAME YEAR
  19. wonder what folks thoughts on the best pigeon through the years i know that FORTUNE LADY SCORED , I THINK II TIMES NATIONAL FLYING OVER 500 MILES,,,AT LEAST I KNOW IT GOT 2 GOLD AWARDS,,, SOME FEAT, BUT I SUPPOSE THERES BEEN MANY A GREAT PIGEON
  20. we call them croups,, fife calls them scuts
  21. in the past ive raced a few on the darkness system, separated and let together friday these were the ones that won , they went out to 280 miles, the natural ybs were stopped at around 100 miles but well trained,,,,as yearlings and old birds i found no differance in them , but off course i had more natural birds left to race as obs
  22. young birds race better on the darkness system separated and let together on a friday , just b4 basketing , with some make shift nest boxes , ie boards against the walls , bricks with a sheet of ply on top, easy to clear out after the race and repeat the following week, and trained well, seperated, but only if your keen on yb racing
  23. i would agree with p,p but if your really concerned why not get their droppings tested [its cheaper than wormer, tight scot ;D ;D]
  24. i would say its just the differant ages,, let them out the same time everyday , theyll soon range when their ready, providing their not too hungry
  25. exellant articles,,,,well worth the read, jack is obviously a very knowledgeable, and thinking fancier, very interesting indeed
