  1. pmv or paratyphoid, more like pmv.
  2. if you get a pigeon reported you must claim it within 7 days or your liable for suspension, two of these fanciers havent even claimed yet, but the pigeons are being liberated in newcastle anyway, so they should get them back at no cost,i.e. return by amtrack parcel delivery pigeon service, which would have cost them,, hope that clears that up for you red ch, all the best j,w,
  3. yes i beleive that birds are telepathic, and have also witnessed the same as posts above ive waited an hour with the hens in the boxes with hardly a sound ,but just before the cocks come , they seem to realize this, and start cooing and becomming restless. i also have a parrot, that when i go out and in all day it says nowt, but when i actually go away it will say" bye bye," ive tried everything to find out why it knows , but it just knows, many people have witnessed this, at first i thought it was switching the tele off or locking the door or putting my coat on, but so far i havent found out and ive had him for 15 years[hes nearly 50]also when opening the fridge for butter eggs etc it does nowt but when i take something out the fridge, for the microwave, ittl go peep, the noise of the microwave, whenever i open the fridge door, sounds crazy but true
  4. ;D ;D ;D topped the fed ;D ;D ;D true :) :)big rush for ladders after that ;D ;D ;D but hyacinth wont tell him where the barn is,, army secret ;D ;D ;D ;D
  5. i see what your saying saddler ,but if i went to the docters with a chest infection, he probably would give me antibiotics[lets face it their a great discovery, and saved many lifes]but when the doc gives you antibiotics ,hell tell you to take the full dose whether you feel better or not, usually a week, but he will not repeat this many times as exactly you said,as it weakens your immune system , ask any docter and he will tell you that, most docters will only prescribe antibiotics as a last resort in fairly serious cases of chest infection, and you MUST take the full dose. copy of antibiotics i got for absess in gum after tooth extraction, label..., amoxiccillin capsules 250 mg take one three times daily, take at regular intervals,,COMPLETE THE COURSE i do take your point in saying,,there is a place for using certain medications, i feel this is a good debate, and worth looking in to
  6. could be exactly that dandydoo ,a corn, but if its infected a bit why not try and dip the infected area in iodine, itll make the bird jump but it could clear it up, worth a try
  7. just a bit off beat ,but does anyone remember an INTERNATIONAL race from nantes run by usher vaux, i still have the result out the racing pigeon [it included the snfc race]IT WAS THE YEAR BEGLIN BROS WON THE SNFC FROM NANTES,WITH HIGH NOON, icant remember what position he was in the international, but as i was nota member of the national ,i sent in the international, i think i was about 200th, but if i remember right there were about 15000 birds away, [ill try and dig out the result] just drifting back in time :)

sounds to me like yb sickness, youll get plenty info onPAGE THREE on theHEALTH topic, it would do no harm to treat for cocci,as with many sicknesses, the bird is debilitated and copes a secondry infection , and the cocci level rises, hope the post helps you,, coxoid would be ok to treat them with
  11. if the constitution was bred in to the birds they wouldnt catch any thing in the basket, but by treating you are lessening their immune system,, i can only go by my own experience, years ago i treated them something similar to you but found after the racing had trouble with respratory etc but again good luck to you, since stopping all that and eliminating any bird that became ill, ifound very few illnesses ocurred
  12. :) happy birthday ozzy ;D ;D ;D have a great day
  13. rose thats exactly what i mean ,,a level playing field in some of the nationals the question i answered by saying i would pick the fed winner out of 3000 birds than pick the" national" winner with 1000 birds the 3000 are racing to roughly the same area and the best bird wins, in some of the nationals sometimes its not the best bird that wins when in a distance race if a fancier was 2cnd flying 200 miles further, i know what i would think was the best bird ,,its happened in scotland a few times the winner flying 200 mies further than the shorter distance fliers, now thats what i would call some winner but with pigeons you can never get a level playing field, and you stay where you stay thats not any fault of the fancier, unless as hyacinth says, they are all flying to the one loft, would be fair. and just to pick up on fifers point , i would say he was dead right,
  14. ;D ;D ;D well good luck fifer ;D ;D ;D ive rung 6 for clocky, but he doesnt know their from under the bridge ;D ;D ;D ;D dont tell him ;D ;D ;D ;D
  15. 3 birds reported one phone call,???,,however the 3 birds are being liberated 1 at morpeth and the other 2 newcastle,, thanks to john lamb [hopefully tues or possibly wed the weather was terrible today to let any off [sunday] thats a week ive had them in a basket fed well, vits in water, and theve never seen out [ i hope the other 2 fanciers realise they could have been suspended
  16. i have had these occasional "protein lumps"but as you say the bird has allways been able to fly,,thatswhy i said it might be worth getting it tested for paratyphoid, because sometimes they show these symtoms, and still look ok otherwise, and it is very easy to have a carrier in the loft that can cause you trouble for years, so it might just be worth getting it tested, just as a safegaurd,
  17. i notice sue you have them tame outside the loft, but its worth getting them like that inside the loft,if you hand fed them from the start ,keep them slightly peckish, then begin to give them some conditioner [it takes longer to eat these smaller seeds]from your hand, even try and get them to feed of your hand from the perches, and start picking them up gently , and putting them back on their perch gently, youll soon get the hang of it and theyll start getting the hang of it, its worth spending time inside the loft, and keeping them tame, if you want to do the other way and get the birds to basket themselves, just get an old box similar to your crate and feed them in that every day ,let them go in the opening by themselves, then yo can do that with your new crate when you need to , you can learn ybs easy with a little hunger[dont mean starving them, but once they learn things as ybs ,they never forget, good luck to you anyway sue, youve done not bad up to now anyway :)
  18. slatey as i said b4 no offence meant, but why treat perfectly fit and healthy ybs ,when the racing starts, with antibiotics, or the obs for that matter, antibiotics are used to cure things, so really im at a loss why your trying to cure "nothing", as your birds seem perfectly healthy.
  19. as far as im aware the union is the governing body, and should have the final say in any any decision,[which is in the rule book],,,,,,,,,,but some how it doesnt work like that, which i think is wrong.
  20. if your not a member of the club you cannot vote at a meeting, indeed you cannot go to a meeting unless your invited by the the members, , but you have no say in the club matters
  21. :) is the fifer going this week, hyacinth?? :)
  22. ;D ;D i would take a youngster off the fed winner, fifer[but i would try and get 2 ;D ;D[and might evn give you one of them ;D] but the funny thing is the so called nat winner would be worth more,,,,, crazy the days seem to have gone where we had 6000 birds away to rennes snfc, open to the whole of scotland " the blue ribband race"the daddy of them all :)
  23. hi slatey,, with due respect why just bruno and jimmy what about saddler ?;D ; ;D i really think if you look in to it well, your doing more harm than good. ive raced pigeons for more than 50 years, been at the top, club , fed national ,tried many differant things, that was one of them, but found it to be detrimental in the end. i honestly beleive most fanciers would agree with that, but as the saying goes , never change a winning system, so i wish you the best of luck :) and gennuinely no offence meant
  24. loanhead, mid lothian part cloudy, sun starting to come through light s,e, wind good race to all. :) 7 45
  25. "frank would love to hear from you"well ive asked frank to send me any pigeon ring nos, so i can notify the owners,,,something tells me frank will not be so frank??
