  1. great going stuart,, its a pity you could change its sex to a hen ;D ;D
  2. have just dug out an old gazzete, with photo of army loft,[not mobile one] it says at the side of photo,,,,loft at h.q. kenya, east africa, with l.a.c. hawes of great yarmouth norfolk [ in army uniform] wonder if anyone has any info on L.A.C. HAWES. , WOULD BE VERY INTERESTING
  3. some time ago , the fifer arranged a room in local com centre with all the old war birds articles , i gave him a n,p,s, ring [national pigeon service] photos and info of mobile lofts , even had "winkie "there stuffed off course, the first bird to win the dicken medal for bravery , the most interesting couple of hours ive spent in a while , even the curater of the hall was getting interested in the pigeons, all thanks to the fifer

hi racer,, very very breifly, peas, beans [legumes] p nuts high protein , for the growth of ybs , or during the moult etc many[ more reasons] carboheydrates are energy giving grains such as maize etc, but im not mentally challenged enough to give you the full chart exactly ;D ;D ;D ;D thats just very basicly, hope it helps a tiny bit anyway
  5. think latebreds can be good birds if handled right , found the best way with l breds was to train them in the year of their birth , train them with ybs as yearlings[or a couple of races in may] as two year olds can go on the rd and win [ found most latebreds go down in early training i.e. march april as yearlings] as their not fully moulted untill second year.ie flights, but a lot of bother, really,,,,,but at the same time had some turn out really good ones
  6. :) happy birthday mosslands, have a good day :)
  7. noticed b4 that the widowhood mix i was feeding had no tic beans in it,, but mix on the transporter had beans in it, so allways made sure the widowhood cocks had beans at times,,,in case of hold over, they would eat what was given to them
  8. lost a bird in yb racing, it turned up 2 weeks b4 the first o,b race the following year , filthy black, but cleaned up in no time and finished up one of my best birds, and to be honest the only reason i kept it was i had plenty room and spare boxes, which it took to one like glue,,,cant say this is the norm , but this one was a good one
  9. thinking about your loft set up snowy and westy, but i think a lot would depend on the system you intend to use ,, in the first 10 by 6 loft , would it not be possible to make the section in the loft, making one 4ft section and one 6ft section, with the 10 stockbirds in the 4ft sectionand as they are prisoners ,make an aviary out the side of the loft ,for them to get the sun and fresh air, and able to give them a bath in,you would be able to lock them in their section for a short while if needed, that would leave a 6ft section for your ybs. this way you could breed your stock birds as early as you need to , and quite easy take two rounds for yb racing the 6ft section would hold 20 ybs ok. the other 10 by 6 loft you could use solely for your ob racing and breeding, i dont know which system you intend using, if it was natural , you could build nest boxes at the back of the whole loft, the cocks and hens could be separated, by a middle partition with a sliding door , which , when paired up could be left open, off course that would be if your racing natural, if you intended racing roundabout i could pm you with another sugestion, but during the next month you can iron it out in your own mind what you think what would be best for you, whichever way you decide i wish you the best of luck and pm me anytime, on any thoughts you had in mind,,,,jw :) :) kind regards to family :)
  10. really stunning lofts and set up, im smiling to myself , as i went fishing in tennerrief, [spelt wrong ;D] it was away in the hills , in a man made lake, i caught the biggest fish of the day,and asked the chap next to me to take my photo, holding the fish with my two hands against my chest, then let the fish go, when i got the photo developed [one of those throw away cameras] all you could see in the photo, was my ugly mug and the tip of a dorsel fin, hed missed the fish out alltogether BUT HONEST IT WAS THE BIGGEST FISH THAT WAS CAUGHT THAT DAY???? ;D ;D ;D ;D
  11. my goodness , how clear these photos are, brilliant ,,good luck :)
  12. an absolutely cracking pair of birds with breeding and looks like that , best of luck to you ben , and darran , what a great deed , thats the way things should be ,,great stuff :)
  13. a great tidy wee loft , looks great , and a beautifull pic of your wee daughter ,lovely :)
  14. good point fifer,,,, another i would like to ask is, would the race i.e nationals mostly, still run on till 400ypm even allthough the" result" would be over, as there are clubs with supreme averages for all races,[ inc nats],,,,,,some young lad maybe in the lead comming up to the last race, niort, and maybe all he would have to do is to time in, as in niort sometimes 400ypm could go on to the third day, would this still be possible? or does someone decide when the race is over i,e, result
  15. good lad sean , all the best, look forward to your posts :)
  16. good luck to you wee peggy, heard youve put a lot of work in to the birds ,and did well with them, well done son, and carry on the good work :)
  17. in treating,,theres differant treatments , but as far as anti biotics go , if you treat a lot with that or mess about with that your courting trouble any vet will tell you that , even any doctor will tell you that,, antibiotics , a great invention , saved many lives, but not to be abused,,,,some pigeon fanciers abuse them
  18. yes, and the better your management is , the less problems youll get
  19. one thing i will say at least these posts are constructive and at least trying to get to the bottom of things, as all questions need answered , and there seems a lot more to it than meets the eye, as with ordinary clocks many differant organizations have differant clock rules , but with the ets would really have to have the same rules for all??/ :-/ :-/ :-/
  20. i can see what your saying sq, p, but the yb race closses at 400 ypm but the darkness hours are 8 pm. but the race may well go in to the next day, and yes granted plenty time to get yout clock checked, but i cant see why the differance should be in the ob races , if the race closes at 10 30 still plenty time to get your clock checked [if the clock station was open] but with obs you just need to control your clock and check it the next day , but you cant do that with ybs :-/ :-/ ;D
  21. the snfc rules are differant for ob,s and ybs
  22. i see excactly where your comming from sg p but who is going to know its going to be a two day race in the yb nat , if yourstaying out in the wilds its just that all our races close at 400 yds p min,, its a strange one
  23. if you look at yb nat [snfc] sq, p youll find the opposite yb nat,,birds timed in ,,must be checked on the day [mind you queerest rule ive seen ]mind you i would be the same as you ;D ;D at the door first ;D ;D
  24. just to clarify a point which im not sure of myself ,,i,e..s,n.f.c. . rules state in the young bird national "only", birds must be checked same day as you time in , whether the race is still going on or not, ,,,you cannot time in on the day, then control your clock like you can do in ob national races then time in another the following morning,,,,,with yb national if you time in on the day, your clock must be checked on the day, then reset if you want ,,,, i found this out the hard way by timing in a good pigeon in the yb national,on the day,,, but as the race was still going on i controlled my clock[as you would normally have done in the o,b nat.],then waited the following morning for a pooler ,,,,,,my bird was disqualified as i had broke the rule,,and not had my clock checked on the day of timing,,,,, this seems a very strange rule to me, as , if i had been at the marking station with my time in,,my second pigeon may well have been sitting in the loft
  25. :) congrats, on your big day , and many happy years to come :)
