    Spooky hens

hens tend to be very spooky last thing at night at this time of the year, [evening] the least thing will have them out all night,, better with the hens out early and back in again
  6. remember,,,flagyl is an antibiotic
  7. ive never been one for treating birds much , but after talking to vet today he said it was wise to treat for worms cocci every couple of months ,, he also said that pigeon fanciers are abusing antibiotics and dont know the damage they are doing ,, he said it must be a good avian vet to prescribe these
  8. yes ,,had that myself aarden they certainly are quite unbeleivable at times
  9. :X :X :X :X :X ;D

  11. hi r, ch h, hope all is well,in your first paragraph ive had birds throw two flights like that and as obs no prob at all, ,,,,but did have one pigeon [in 50 odd years ] that moulted strangely every year , the flights moulted out most irregular , sometimes 3 at the end or 3 at the beginning even miss one moult one miss one moult one , never ever seen this since all its parents , family were ok even its ybs and g children , so never ever got to the bottom of that one , the bird was allways shining, i asked armand scheers, he said [bird prone to false moult] but as i say never really found out yet, im not suggesting yours are like that , in fact i would say quite normal, but this one of mine seemed to be a one off, the second one , to cut the birds flights on the one wing is what the vets do to the parrots ,[when asked] it gives the bird more freedom than being locked in asmall cage , i did that with my parrot but left it as it moulted its new flights and has now been flying free for years now, mind hes old now and doesnt go far, but as far as the pigeons go , i would prefer[ if i couldnt break them] to" soap" their flights , and once theve been out for awhile and seen round about they usualy stay, when the soap washes off, but off course youd have to have them in the bottom nest boxes, but whichever way you choose , the bird is still having more freedom , than being stuck in the loft,,,,,,anyway wish you all the best with them [ :'(sorry didnt mean to go on so long ]
  12. ITS A HORRIBLE DESEASE, BUT THINK THERES TOO MUCH MONEY TO BE MADE FOR THAT TO HAPPEN [ONLY MY OPINION] WEVE NO ARGUEMENT UP HERE WEVE GOT TO VACCINATE
  13. I THINK ONE OF THE WORST THINGS TO HAVE AT ANY TIME,IN THE LOFT, IT REALLY HAS TO BE DIAGNOSED VERY CAREFULLY AS THE SYMTOMS CAN BE VERY SIMILAR TO ,PARAMYXO,,,,,WORST CAUSE IS MICE IN THE LOFT,
  14. VERY INTERESTING ,,,,FOUND FLAGYL TO BE THE BEST TREATMENT [ADVICE FROM A GREAT FANCIER] :)
  15. if you have a look at the photos thread youll see some of the champs from yesteryear, and some of the ads [look at the ugly duckling ;D] one especialy for bruno,," the verminator" off course with foot pump action ;D supplied with a zapper for the flies, once you finished with that lot youd be fitter than the birds ;D ;D photo of ruhr express [see war pigeons]
  16. brilliant ,, what is it they say ,,seek and ye shall find ,, everything on this forum if you have a really good look,, cant get much better than that ;D ;D ;D
  17. sorry ,p,,h just noticed your post , yes i very much like plenty fresh air flowing round the loft at the mo i dont race them ,but have an 8by6 loft with an 8 by 6 aviarythe door of the loft is open all day [wire doors on it]sputick and vents on front also, with open window at side to the aviary , the aviary has a perspex roof and a wooden back where the box perches are , the side where the perches are is wooden , but the front, and part of the side are wide open , but there is no dampness where the birds perch, some of them prefer to perch their in the dead of winter , so theres plenty of fresh air , havent had any ailments in a long long while ;D ;D
  18. in my experience i have found the birds with the quiet temprement [not timid] travel better and race better in longer races ,,but it takes all kinds
  19. not too long fifer but flying out ok,, main problem ,,,,hawks [fright]
  20. ive quite often in the past let them pair up as they like , ive found they flew better like that , and done well with their off spring
  21. i agree with ray but would maybe add "please your own "mind" and eyes" i think its the inside of the bird that counts
  22. ive just been looking at some modern champions and some older champions,,one thing struck me ,,some of them you wouldnt give tuppence for, but their champs ok.,, like many, i like to handle and look at a beautifull pigeon, i often wonder if were breeding for that, or breeding for performance :)
  23. ;D ;D looks to have been a great night,, superb pics,, and the trophies beautifull, well done to all
  24. no sign up to now snowy,,but thanks
