if you want to win yb races feed them a lighter diet [high carboheydrate] but these ybs in my opinion would not go on to make good distance birds , plenty protein beans and peas , a little maize, plenty exercise from day one, ,their still able to win yb races but more liable to make better obs

it would probably breed at that age i,e, 6 months , but the bird itself is really not really matured enough, to hatch and rear,

yes all pigeon foods are adverised the best , i think its up to your own eyes ,taste and smell to find a good mix , not neccessary the dearest,,,,but on the subject of chappie ;D i had an old mealy [im sure some older fanciers will remember well] it took a position in every race from 62 miles to 608 miles and scored at 9 years old in a national , this bird would insist eating the bits of dog biscuit mixed with the dog meat,,,,and no it wasnt a barker ;D but a exceptional pigeon :)

youll get a half gallon of c.l.o at any agricultural store for the price of a big bottle of seven seas , but off course the seven seas will be of better quality as its for human consumption,, if mixing it with grain youll find it better soaked in some groats, as with maples and tic beans it doesnt absorb so easy and doesnt take much to mark the birds [mind you it comes off quick , but its just if your thinking of entering them for a show]

funny how the birds all like to go in the bath,,,,when its raining ;D

allthough its been very rough here the last few days, i still have roses budding and flowering, and geraniums the same ,,,and so are the pigeons ;D ,,seasons are definately changing

Preventitive treatments for racing pigeons
jimmy white replied to Keepsmilingqueen's topic in Products & Medication
hi sharon youll find r. ch. h .bang on , but if you cant get the droppings tested regularly would be wise to treat them for cocci, worms every few months , i was allways against this, until speaking with the vet" a doctor" at the s a c , he told me this was best [if you cant get droppings tested] but off course this is not compulsory. -

you maybe right tammy,,,the w.h.o ,,,the world health organization , the man from the who could stop you and ask for details, ;D, but i think somehow it will be the man from the dept for envireonment for food and rural affairs,,[ defra] ;D or even the man from the pru. if you owe him ;D -
i have concrete in the bottom of my small aviary, shaped to run in to a grid in the corner , so after theve had a bath , put some bleach in bathwater , clean bath , pour out and hard brush floor, then hose it clean , two jobs done ;in one ;D

often have a chat with a doctor in the s a c at the bush estate , he was telling me it was wise to treat for worms and cocci fairly regular [which i hadnt been doing ] but when i mentioned baytrill he told me that the pigeon fanciers are the worlds worse for giving this[ excellent antibiotic for proper use prescribed by a good avian vet] willy nilly,,, and selling it on the blackmarket when it is ruining the pigeons , by giving it too much , some everyweek ,,, his words were baytrill is not to be messed about with.

hi sharon ,nice to see you posting again but as far as pairing your natural pigeons up really depends on what races you want to go for [by the way mine are the same as yours at the mo ] if its the short to middle distance you can pair up in feb i would say , but if its the longer races later in june or july would tend to wait till march to pair them , that way theyll be in the right condition for these races,, but whatever way well both need to get them separated soon :)
-
pair the stock birds whenever you want to,,, but with the racers , if racing natural ,the birds will be too far in the moult for the longer races if you pair these up too early,,, thats why with widowhood they take the second round of eggs away after 8, 10 days this will delay them casting there first flight [ thats why they can pair the w hoods in dec or jan ]

i have won with a 9 year old but would say this is a rarety, but was 15th open blue riband snfc race from rennes with a 6 y,o. [1st time it had ever scored,, but had £100 pool on it £1800 ;D] i think for distance races they can win till their 7,8, but for sprint races about 4 y,o but as far as sales go ive found youll get a fairly cheap older bird that a few years previous would have cost a fortune, but could still breed the goods , but like all with pigeons, theres allways exception to the rule.

happy birthday andy, have a great day

i have mixed it with water b4 and found that that to be wrong ,as the birds are not getting the full benefit of the live yogurt,, if,.you need to use it ive found the best way is syringe it straight into their crops, that way your sure its in them
