  5. if you start with just a few racing pigeons, get them as babies and if you work well with them , they can be very tame indeed, theyll soon fly on , and feed on your hand etc ,,,best of luck ,,ps, youll find as much info on the forum to keep pigeons, plus any questions answered, theres quite a few newcommers on the forum :)

  7. hi mike, have you found any other eleven flighted birds bred ?, related to "assassin" extra flights not done him any harm anyway ;D ;D ,,,i had one with eleven flights just in the one wing , would have thought it would have knocked it off balance , but this particular bird did really well, won a few bob also ;D
  8. :)never even thought of looking at back of squills :) thanks for that :) looks like alan raeside that holds the record [mind you its an old squills im looking at],, but all gallant birds that have did this [and not many] but the old duke of wellington,s must take a bit of beating, ;D ;D 7000 miles wonder if he used the ets ;D ;D ;D[ ive seen that in guinnes book of records]

  11. on the odd occasion ive bred pigeons with eleven flights , some of these had eleven flights on one wing only,, this did not seem to effect their racing , as some were quite good ones [not all] but had one particularly good one, does anyone know about this peculuarity, it must be genetic somehow as these were of the same family, but allways wondered about this :) any veiws
  12. does anyone know what the record is for a pigeon flying 1000 miles in to scotland,, i know years ago it was held by moffat of mount skip , midlothian, then at one time w pentland broke it of easthouses, mid lothian , but at that time it was about a week i think , but would be interested to find what the record is now and who holds it
  13. would say if the likes of stuart willcox ,, starts off a stud, i would go for him, , ive had some decent buys at reasonable costs and found him very genuine ;D ;D ;D now im looking for a good distance hen ;D ;D ;D cheap ;D
  14. as i said b4 at the beggining, i would normaly start them off at about 5 miles,,,yet cassting my mind back ,to when i moved to kelso[in the borders] about 40 odd miles from my original loft , the ybs were only out about twice , then kept in when i knew i was moving, at the new lofts one shot over my head and returned to the old loft in about an hour ;D ;D ;D strange things pigeons, [if i had meant to do that i probably would have lost it ;D ;D ;D]
  15. ;D ;D if your happy, your flying good
  16. i have found that a very inbred bird from great racers crossed to very inbred birds of great racers of a differant family have produced good pigeons for me , in the past
  17. best of luck to you shadow, in your new move , hopefully youll stay on p.b. and pleased for the members that bought your birds and scored with them, im sure you will be to,, going by your posts during the last couple of years im pretty sure your a very sensible pigeon fancier, so lets keep on hearing from you :)
  18. great young westy , had me about in tears about blue paddy , releived to see him home anyway ,,,,just shows youthe damage the hawks do,, he looks like hes had a narrow escape :) great for the public and for the sport of pigeons :)
  19. ;D happy birthday tudorlofts ;D
  20. some stunning looking pigeons , hard to pick one there , but would go for no 1
  21. according to david palmer a half cubic metre per bird if well ventilated so if your loft is 3 meteres long[ 9ft ]and 2 meteres broad[ 6ft] and 2 meters high[ 6ft] so if you multiplied the 3 by 2 by 2 = 12 thats per cubic metre so 24 for a half cubic metre per bird with the extra foot in length would, give you another 1and a bit cubic metors another 3 birds, 4 at most which would mean according to david palmer bhw vet 28 birds as long as theres good ventilation :) and i thought a metor was something you put a shilling in ;D ;D ;D
  22. hi mac i sorry to here youve had that wee bit bother, but as the days tick by youll soon get over this ,, maybe a genuine mistake that can easily be resolved ,,, youve done too much work with the birds to throw them away like that , and beleive me you would regret it,, so best with chin up , and make up your mind to try and beat them all next year and the best of luck to you :)
  23. trust you craig ;D ;D ;D when i was in hospital with septic arthritis in the both ankles , they were going to operate [twice] but twice it was cancelled ,, they put me on a drip of flagyl for 3 days, and at least it cleared the infection
