  1. the old dr barkers book on the racing pigeon , very old book ,but still makes sense today,, worth a read for novices , if you can get your hands on one
  2. sodium chlorate will kill most weeds , but could be harmfull to birds until washing away,, mixed sodium chlorate with sugar at bonfire time for g kids,, doesnt half give off some bright burning flame,, but what was left , some kind of charcoal i guess, but the birds ate at this spot with relish for such a long time that there was actualy a hole where they were picking , but never did the birds any harm

    oils

;D used to use oil of olay, to put on the handle of the bedroom door to keep the kids out,,,,nowadays i just leave the door open ;D seriously use wheatgerm oil b4 mating , hempseed oil for short races and fish oils for build up to nationals, or distance races. a little linseed or linseed oil when moulting
  4. thanks very much coxy ,, i got your pm mate thanks :)
  5. the webmaster has told me he is shocked as to what happened last night, and told me i have no obligation to explain why , but for the sake of peace ,[ hopefully] the post was deleted for sectarian reasons, the post in question was from,,, amber. his avator was the emblem of the" ulster vollunteer force "and the topic was ,,the prison, containing a picture of a gun, which whilst working for the citizens advice bureau new that ,that could have caused unneeded trouble, and was of the opinion there was no place for it on a pigeon forum,,,,if i had only deleted this post , then alfs reply would have been to a non existing post so the thread was quite rightly deleted according to the webmaster i find some of the posts have been less than polite lately, so i just wonder[ hope] that we can ALL enjoy a brilliant forum on pigeons, freindship, and all learn a lot from this,,happy posting :)
  6. sean that was a wee bit unneccessary if you look at your post i offered you two late breds
  7. if yougive me a minute im fighting a war with 800 against one :) :)it was the very first post headed ,, the jail with a picture of a gun COULD have lead to bother ,,,deemed unsuitable for a pigeon forum ,,,,,,,any asprins please ;D
  8. been answereing that many pms just got on to this now ,,,at least its made everybody read the codes of conduct if nothing else :)
  9. could members please read codes of conduct,,, b4 posting
  10. and a brilliant result that was too,,,,,,,,,,,,im sure jack barkell wont mind me printing the first paragraph of an e mail from him quote,,,i beleive all extreme distance candidates, should not have sex during their build up, all birds should be flown celibate to preserve their build up of energy, power and stamina. i know there are good prizes aquired by various nesting positions, but this urge to be home does not compare with the extreme fitness of a bird deprived of sex. but to answer your original question ,,,,, if it was natural, i would prefer sending an older cock feeding one youngster, then just looking at the hen to begin to drive
  11. thats a very difficult one that craig , dont think i could even answer it,,, but the above one did make me laugh ;D ;D ;D

    System

;D ;D ;D know a great fancier who raced the" KENWOOD" system, he used a kenwood food mixer connected to his fronts , worked all with a timer switch , had a tape of the dawn chorus and the footsteps going to his loft the sound of the lock un locking and his voive" c,mon then"and all birds were let out at 6am when he was still in his bed ;D ;D till it got stuck one day ;D ;D ;D he then went back to an alarm clock at his bed side ;D ;D ;D,,,,,,and this is true ;D ;D ;D [wont give anymore hints away ;D ;D ;D] as i know whos looking now ;D ;D ;D

    System

i would fly the system that suited you, ie work family etc comittments, i also found that some pigeons suited differant systems too
  14. i asked this question in the beginning as it was sir colin 2cnd nat , that bred the very odd bird with eleven flights , allways just on one wing, in all the years he bred he threw about 6 of these type birds one of them scoring also in national, yet never had any[ that i know of] further down the line
  15. really i think good birds can come in all shapes and sizes ,colours too
  16. my way of tossing was to toss them well in good weather then toss them in fairly dodgy weather when they were fit and had experience [ but theres a fine line ]
  17. some years ago i managed to get[louella all fair auction] a daughter off starview leo ,,[ nat winner , when paired to a daughter off john james [nat winner] for £50,, but unfortunately bred nowt

  20. happy birthday bart , and good luck judging show
  21. they look to be related anyway best of luck with them , it would be nice to score with ybs off them , for the old owners sake.
  22. my advice would be to discount the ones that are dirty, in any way,, then from the rest pick the one you like best ,, best of luck and hope you enjoy yourselves
  23. :) topped the fed with a yb bred off two nestmates [paired by mistake,in a way] a few of us got together and bought pigeons from a stud,my klack jansen cock was a reall cracking racer, one of the other chaps had a klack jansen hen which had done well for him, so we decided to put them together and split the youngsters , when i topped the fed with a young bird off them , i asked to see the pedigree of the hen,,,,,,,they were both nestmates :)
  24. wonder what the biggest fed is in brittain ,,could well be lanark , but not sure
  25. a five pence ,,,now, p,p ;D ;D ;D just giving my age away ;D
