-
maybe better deb, just feeding your two racers at the same time every day, making sure the street pigeon gets nothing , after yours have had their fill , leave no food lying about , or you may finish up with more street pigeons ;D ;D ;D, but young wiley is right they can possibly carry desease,so just care for your own :)

question was do you , beleive in pedigrees , my answer to that would be, some i would say there are many a good pigeon about , but it takes the management to get the best out of them

How much should I feed my birds
jimmy white replied to Iqbal's topic in Novices, Beginners & Young Fanciers
protein feeding when they are growing , but still would only feed them once a day , just enough, that as soon as they become disinterested stop their not really fully developed untill their two years old but will successfully race to certain distances as ybs and yearlings -
i think if you look back on many so called breeds of pigeons , theres many introductions through the years , i remember asking a top wildy flier ,, whats the best breed ,,his answer was ,,,for selling, pure? for racing crossed, think that really sums it up , i think i would rather have birds bred through generations of winners , for the distance i was expecting out of them , than go for so called breeds, only my opinion
-
looking way back in the posts coxy,,, a wee bit late in answering , but to tell you the truth never noticed it at the time,, the whites i had were actualy gay pieds , bred down from tam mcleods , lewis mitchells and my own, no particular breed as such , but bred down from winners ,,,one thing i do notice now , i have a gay pied allmost white,,,,,is when the neighbours pass in my residential mobile home site, they all pass remarks about" that lovely one"so if the neighbours are happy so am i ;D ;D

bought quite an expensive hen from massareli bred from two nat winners,, bred absolutely nowt , gave it away, did more with the £99 for 6 ybs ;D ;D ;D, so it just goes to show???

be carefull in what your doing, not to damage things anymore , remember a pigeon has three eye lids, one of these being a very fine membrane, which is very important to the bird,,,, maybe try and bathe with a cold tea bag first , then seek expert advice
-
its a bad state nowadays if it has to come to this, my honest opinion is people are jealous of good fliers,,,

glad to hear that westy,,,, im sure the two cocks will settle soon
-
swillcox would be my choice [you can allways barter a bit as your a pigeon basics lad ;D ;D], make sure youve got your badge,,, at least youll get a fair deal from him
-
nice to hear your the proud owner of these two pigeons now, you seem to have done well with them as they obviosly know their being looked after ,, the reason they could have been lost was probably due to them being young birds and maybe adverse weather in some race , or maybe simply lost track from their original loft,in bad weather, it sounds very like a cock and a hen to me , if their sitting next to each other, if so , theyll probably breed if you put a box in and a" nest bowl"im sure any local fancier would help and advise you, again he would advise you where to get the proper pigeon mix, which contains maize and maple peas, and sometimes other seeds , im sure some one near you on the forum will contact you and keep you right ,, who knows you might have two future champions there,, best of luck anyway and keep in touch,, :)

when you handle a yb , [any age bird for that matter] tickle the hard boney bit under the eye quietly for a few mins ,,,,see how quiet that bird becomes :)
-
must say i agree with you sammy , but there are some fanciers pick things up quicker than others ,,,,,,, i would say experience is not the time you have with the birds,,,,,, its what you" put in to the time" you have with the birds, :) must say i enjoy your posts ,,whoever you are
