  3. seriously some household fly sprays contain permethrin, which does derive from flowers ,lavender etc , at this time of the year , i believe that flies are the major cause of disease [biss, called them flying hypodermic needles] red mite at this time here, can multiply to epidemic levels in days , which will feed on the blood of the pigeon [squeeze one , between your thumb nails ,,,,,pure blood] lift a week old yb look under its wing ,,,,,,,,,and hope you don't see them :-/the yb will be pale and lacking, the parents will be so bothered ,theil come off them, i beleive the odd lice [feather lice] are not a big problem , unless covered ,as in my opinion , this keeps the preening and oil gland in good working order ,,, i know a lot will disagree, but that is my opinion
  4. household fly spray ,,,permethrin ;D ;D ;D put some lavender stalks round the nests ;D ;D ;D it works

  7. I've found best the sling or hammock with woman's tights [but be careful which woman you get them from one leg broken found the best way ,,leave it,,,, ,it'll learn within a day to hop and eat and drink and will be walking in a fortnight , I've tried splints , plaster of Paris, tape etc ,, I've found they are better left alone ,yb,s heal in no time [off course depends how bad] ankle part, elbow part,,no prob , but at the very top , a little more difficult ,and will be left maimed ,
  8. i have donated to" jane" my close neighbour , who completed the 26 mile moonwalk she was nearly at the point of giving up but, instead,,,gave all and made it ,,,started at 12 mid-night , she finished at 7,30 am ,,,,,absolutley done in
  9. simplest way [after all it is your bird].........so a good offer by gangster
  10. good lad jont,,,,,,will phone,,,,thanks
  11. i would tend to agree with this post paul,,[ unfortunately] its really amazing how quick this can take a grip,,overnight really, i think the old fella is right and think your doing the right thing, but i would keep them in and feed lightly , one thing in your favour is ,,the birds have been or still are flying well and should be more" capable of shaking this off" than younger birds that havent been flying well ,if i were you i would take every precautonary measure in the book ,so to speak , keep the loft spotless and use an old" flash spray" filled with virkon ,s , use it freely [a fine mist spray all over the loft] and a footbath at the door with virkon,s in it and wouldnt let anyone in the loft or even visit any other lofts , i really hope this is just a minor set back , but taking these precautions wouldnt do no harm ,, as you say , you could well be over-reacting ,,,,but better safe than sorry,, best of luck

  15. please lads ,,,lets keep cool
  16. something has to be tried or thought about very seriously ,as the situation is bad enough just now, but most certainly will get worse,,,, see the hawk thread chris on" sticky". as you say something along these lines could well help
  17. i agree with this , the hen sparrow hawk is an opportunist, and will take when it suits
  18. yes, i must agree with dovescote here,,,but i think were getting carried away ,,with cats and dogs , the eagle owl is just an ordinary large owl and just as frightened of humans as any other owl ,instead of feeding on small animals ,mice etc. it feeds on rabbit , it might go for a miniature or toy dog ,,,,,,,,if it was running wild among the cliffs ,near its nest :-/, but not an alsation
  19. yes,,,the peregrine [or any other bird of prey],which tends to nest in the same habitat ,,,,,,,,,,and that's for its own protection IE, its youngsters,,,,,,,,, feeding is ,mainly rabbits ,which handy enough, also come out at night, and are plenty-full
  20. maybe you could let us know about the pigeon jacket
