  1. is the s h u rings not the 10th of jan,,,,,it used to be
  2. you beat me ;D ;D ;D
  3. i know the last few years ive given babies milk in their drinking water ,, two big tablespoons when the youngsters are over a week old , also high protein mix[ a few p. nuts.] with plenty fresh grit and minerals ,, seemed to have reared healthy youngsters
  4. wonder how many tips or advise in rearing strong healthy yb,s
  5. just a driving cock ;D ;D ;D ;D
  6. yes these ybs would still have to be darkened down untill the longest day to have a full body moult and retain their flights
  7. with pigeons alf,, there sure is
  8. think it would be better in the nationals if they flew,,,in,, the dark ;D,,,nevermind on the dark ;D,, mind you theres been time, ins ,,,in the dark ,, i remember timing in at 4 20 am ,,with the race opening at 4 30 ;D remember newcombe timing in at 11 50 ,,,and the bird arriving then , he reckoned it followed the street lights ,, just goes to show
  9. are you meaning racing the old birds on the darkness system?? i cant see any benefit from that mark :-/ i think its the 21st dec is the shortest day , so after that a tiny bit lighter each night[a min or so] , but not noticable untill the end of jan or therabouts , so i cant see any benefit from that
  10. exactly what im trying to say ist week april,,, 90 days,,, the classics
  11. how much more darkness could you give them its dark at 3 30 pm now light at 9 am or so really if you want natural birds in condition for the classic races i would pair 90 days b4 them , i would say pair the older birds, destined for these races ,,then [why do fanciers allways say they mate up on ?? why not different times? , so they come in to form different times ]
  12. hi david,, sometimes you can work back the way, with your racers, depending on what type of racing your aim is,, a bird usually [but not allways, with pigeons ] comes into form after its thrown its first flight ,so for the races you intend trying work back [again this is natural im talking about] 10 days on eggs ,, 24 days rearing young,, 18 days to hatch [theyll lay quicker in the summer ,often 7 days ] 14 days laying first eggs ,, all in all if natural ,,about 90 days b4 the races you want to do well in but with w hood its ok to pair and rear ybs at xmas time , but not letting these birds sit longer than 8 days on their second round ,, as they will hold their flights ,,,,,,,,but by mating early , really just means your feeding your yb,s longer, myself , personally would mate w hood cocks up the sat after b pool , these breed good enough darkness yb,s,,, and the cocks [if w hood ] just be ready for the first races ,, and if done properly you can keep these cocks going 10 weeks or so in racing form to varying degrees
  13. no probs with the stock birds josh, any time really,, just means your feeding the yb longer, , but with the stock birds you might want to breed more yb,s ,,its really the racers the prob sometimes [cant burn the candle at both ends with them ]

  15. pm sent sammy
  16. would just like to explain to any new commer on mating up if you race natural , then mate your birds now, they,ll be sitting on their second round about beginning of feb , after sitting 10 or so days , on these second round eggs , they will begin to throw their first flight, then carry on moulting, these birds will be in no state to race in the bigger races in june , july , as they will be far to advanced in the moult ,, just a word of warning to newcommers to the sport, w hood birds do not sit more than 10 days [best being 8 days] on their second round , therefore hold their flights. i am just mentioning this as some newcommers , very keen and meaning well , will pair their racers up now , trying to get plenty yb,s , breeding two or even three rounds ,, these racers if mated and raced will not see more than half the season , because they,ll be too advanced in the moult. so maybe just a thought , for these lads

    dundee show

well done to all that made the show possible ,,well done to all entries,, and a big well done to clocky pics ,great
  23. yes i agree with this , very sensible , and as just said would benefit many people [i remember one year comming back from blackpool , the roads were blocked at the shap area, we had to stay a night in a hotel ] we werent warned of this weather b4 leaving blackpool,, so probably a good idea for all
  24. i find in recent years this is true , why , i do not know,, years ago , on a sat you could identify the fife birds going over the central birds, the further north birds going over, etc etc in big batches , now you just seem to see small bunches, or even half dozens or so,even twos and threes nearly all day , , the other difference i notice from years ago,, fanciers will time their first birds in , then have so many back, say in an hour ,, after this hour now,,they seem to dry up completely , most are lost , whereas they would drop in steady all day years ago,, but with fewer losses,, makes one wonder why these changes are occurring :-/
  25. my brother breeds ..shows , red canaries,[think he was at grangemouth show to-day],,, think hes a secy of some club ,, ill mention this to him , he might just be able to help,
